Did you buy Alan Wake 2 on Epic?
That's actually quite relevant! Too bad physical PC games aren't a thing anymore (aside from Collector's Editions which just have a key printed on a card, or some limited edition prints for collection/giveaways).

Not really going to happen as most people don't even have disc drives anymore and how much of an expense it is to print discs and box art - it only works on console because they know the market is more limited in games to choose than PC - i mean you can get a whole world of gaming on PC just looking on the internet

Consoles are going down that path too now, both Xbox and PS have "discless" variants.
At least we have GOG and Internet to make sure we always have a copy of the games we own a license to.

I am that weird guy, that for PC I never wanted to buy anything physical... When I started to play games legally, I started with steam, so I like all my games there... I have epic and gog account as well, but I think never played anything from their store... Except Fortnite and DBD. 😅 But the console is somehow linked in my mind with physical media... so I dont like to buy anything digitally, but everything in physical... Strange, I know... 😅

Not strange at all lol, everything you said makes a lot of sense (and does to most people, which is why the industry is going the way it is).

And there are disc-less/digital-only variants of last gen consoles, yeah. That's what I meant by this:
which is why the industry is going the way it is

For some time it's been in my saved-for-later section on Amazon. Every now and then it drops from $79.99 to $78.12, and I have a good laugh.

My issue is the entry cost of consoles, and the price of the average game. It feels awkward to pay a price comparable to my rent for a console for the rights, to buy more games.
But man, I'd like to have gravity rush 2 and bloodbourne (and others)

The thing is that the entry cost of a good PC is also high... 😅 Also I just checked, the PS5 slim with disk drive is cca 550€, the pro without the drive is 799€ + i think 100€ is the drive. And even though the games are usually around 70€/piece, luckily the secondhand market is thriwing, so I would say its not that expensive... 🤔

Same country(I guess), so I guess you know the limitations. It's just not priced for us, and it took years to get a PC at the standard level, even if bought 2 years ago.550€ is a bit too much with the monthly salary of 1000€ in a rented flat, and higher priorities than getting a secondary gaming platform.

Yep, might be same country. 😅
Btw I totally get that its pricey for a secondary platform. But I remember I had 2 choices back then in the PS4 era. Either I could build a new PC, which would be 1000+ or I could buy a PS4 Pro. So I settled with a console. My PC will be 12 years old in september, and I will have to upgrade cause of the amazing EOL of win10... 😅 But I am putting away money each month, even though luckily my salary is a bit higher than 1000€😅

They, just got their niche AAA game financed.
If it didn't work out for EPIC that's their problem, Remedy will just look elsewhere next time.

In the last few years, I usually don't buy games so early since release. But in this case, I bought it on one of the firsts sale of the game.
If I remember correctly it was around 40€ for the Deluxe Edition, a couple of months after the release, so it was a nice discount (It was 25% off, and another 33% off, if I remember correctly). So I bought it. If not for that aditional 33% discount, I doubt I would have bought it then, and now I would be waiting for bigger discounts).
So for me it was a strange case of being better that it was only on Epic.

Maybe not what about sales on Steam it might have had similar deals on their site - I know that isn't always true but sometimes better and sometimes worse

Finally played the first game and I honestly don't get what all the hype was about back in the day. The story is interesting, but everything else is average at best. Game is way too easy even on Nightmare. Combat gets repetitive and boring fast. But worst of all, the game just doesn't build up to any kind of climax. There is no plot twist, you sort of just mosey on to the ending through long linear levels and then it's over. Not really looking forward to playing the sequel.

No I heard they would go back to games on Steam if Steam dropped their taking from 30% to around 15% (I think) but with the other companies on Steam like Sony, Microsoft, Capcom etc... one company that giveaway games and is still disliked compared to them isn't much worry

Remedy games usually sell on long run - most games sell in first few months then wither down a lot. For example iirc, control has sold 4.5m in lifetime and 500k of it last year. Which is imo quite a bit considering its 2019 game and hardly "huge name" despite lot of influencer hype on visuals and story. But I might be remembering numbers wrong.
Either way, thing is that Epic funded the game and it wouldnt have happened without them. I also dont think PC market was that big for AW2, considering system requirements specially at launch. Probably sold more on consoles. Bit shame its not coming to steam but idk, its just one launcher for me personally. Its not like you are buying whole new console or abandoning steam.
Also 'horror' is usually kinda niche. Things outside Resident Evil and maybe FNAF barely sell big numbers. Even Silent Hill series as whole, before 2 remake, has sold like 9 million .. and compare that to RE7 that sold 9 million alone.. and RE4 (both OG and remake) probably even more.

they made a shit deal. i played on ps5 and loved it though so maybe think about playing it.

It's no surprise that a game funded by Epic won't come to Steam. And it is no problem at all to play it on Epic. That's what I'll be doing.

Did Epic fund them also? As nice as Steam/Valve Alan Wake 2 wouldn't even have been made without Epic's help
Comment has been collapsed.
If epic invested more in making a decent client and less into exclusivity, then they would have a more compelling case against steam. Having said this, Steam now is not the Steam it used to be. I miss summer sale events where you could do in-game achievements and get small rewards like tf2 and dota2 items and small dlcs.
I like Alan Wake 1 and would like to play Alan Wake 2, but I am not in a rush to play it since I have a huge backlog of other games.

True a better client would be a nice and more valuable use of their time and money but they would rather go this way and guess it isn't working I mean why would people buy and spend money with them if they will give us free games each week with no catch - There is a reason that they have to offer large amounts of money for games to be Epic only on PC, while Steam has 100 times more games only on their site and have never used these tactics
Comment has been collapsed.
Personally, I'm pissed off at steam with all the censorship in visual novels
Comment has been collapsed.
I've heard many companies saying that and then they change tactics. It will happen, but not any time soon. Idk how much Remedy is making, but they would have made a lot more on Steam if they were smart. Exclusivity and microtransactions are the worst thing that happened to video games.

They will come back, just like EA and Ubisoft and everyone else did.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well considering the people making the games got paid before hand it doesn't matter that much to them money wise at least
Comment has been collapsed.
well if it had not been for Epic we wouldn't have number 2 let alone a possible 3
Comment has been collapsed.
Welp, it was Epic who funded the game's development and took care of publishing it so I'm not that surprised. I still wouldn't be so sure that it'll never come to Steam tho, if the Epic store never manages to be profitable eventually they'll have to come back to Steam whether it's in the near future or a decade from now, and I'm talking about the whole of Epic and not just Remedy.
Regardless, even tho I want to play Alan Wake 2 I'd need a new PC to do so first, and even then I'm gonna wait for the game to go on a deep discount. So I'll buy it and play it... someday.
