Did you buy Alan Wake 2 on Epic?

View Results
No - never buy on Epic
Yes - even if it was coming to Steam to play sooner
No - was hoping for Steam version but will buy now
No - and since no steam version I won't be playing it at all (unless they give it free)

I was lucky enough to get this for free from Alienware Arena and it was so good I bought the DLC.

As someone who was a console gamer long before a PC gamer, I was used to exclusive for many, many years so it never really bothered me. If I wanted to play certain games I picked up the console they were on, if not I passed on them. A lot of the exclusives for PS and Xbox we see on PC nowadays which is great. Nintendo IPs like Mario, Zelda and Metroid on the other hand if you want those then you pick up a Switch. If you want to play Alan Wake 2, then get it on the EGS since it's not coming to Steam, it's really that simple. I ended up getting Alan Wake 2 with a Nvidia 4070 gaming PC promotion, so that was a nice bonus.

I've seen the craziest arguments by some on the net that say they won't buy it on the EGS and only Steam because if they buy it on the EGS it will give money to Epic lol. The game is published by Epic Games, so even if it launched on Steam and people purchased the game, part of the money goes to them.

I couldn't buy it on Epic even if I wanted to due to sanctions. So if a game is not on Steam, it does not exist for me. I won't buy it on Steam either unless it has 75% discount or more because I already have tons of games waiting to be played. Actually from my thousands of games there are less than 10 for which I paid full price. I am never in a hurry so I prefer to wait for a discount.

Honestly, it's a non-issue. Remedy made the game from Epic's money, and Epic is in charge of these decisions, and it's their money on the line. Remedy made the game, got awards and pretty great reviews of it, they did good, and they aren't in any trouble going forward.

Alan Wake 2 is not doing well on mobile either? I'm shocked!

Not buying until they bring it on steam, I like to have all my games on 1 platform, without having to log into a bunch of them. Always hated how ea games and ubislop force you to use their launchers.

Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2 were published (funded) by Epic obviously they weren't coming to Steam. I'm sure they'd rather take the loss. They want to draw more people to their platform.

Having freebies that activate to account reliably (these days it's far more typically a time-out issue than a fake activation issue, at least), holiday freebies that aren't inconsiderate of our time, a client that works the way one'd expect, online-requiring games that can properly and reliably through epic's jank servers/DRM, better in-browser functionality (note: they've actually removed a lot of in-browser functions, like being able to see owned games or previous purchases, as the service progressed- or at least, if either functionality still exists, it's gotta be super hidden now), or support that isn't going to randomly delete your account or treat you poorly.. would all attract customers to their platform as well (or at least not scare them off as much).

This is a simpler approach than stamping out the dumpsterfire, though, I guess.

Tell that to Tim Sweeney :D No one likes it but it's the way it is. But I agree, improving the platform would be a better solution, though likely more costly (which is the only reason I can assume they won't improve it).

...and nothing of value was lost.
Alan Wake was reduced to a supporting cast in his own game. It should not even be called Alan Wake 2, more like a late DLC for Control.
There is a reason Remedy bought back all their IPs. Even if its given free on Epic I still will not play it.
