No achievements on both Summer and Holiday sales. We have every right to be disappointed so stop insulting like moron. BTW fak you Valve!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, "we lost Valve" because there aren't any achievements in a sale. Valve can be completely written off as worthless. What?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

+1. I think it is rather pathetic. It's just achievements. Of course it isn't like we'll get up to 75% OFF triple A titles and great Indie titles for less then a fiver. And who cares that they introduced software, are releasing Steam for Linux and have the new big screen for TV's. My god people can be idiots.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, people with opinions contrary to yours are definitely idiots. You had a few valid arguments, but you lose credibility by being like that.

Bottom line, in the past 11 months, I have spent about 20% of my gaming money on Steam and 80% on Amazon, Gamersgate and various indie bundles. The previous year, I spent 95% on Steam. I am sure others have very different experiences, but that one is mine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That has more to do with other sellers getting better than Steam getting worse.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree. And it is shocking that Steam hasn't in some way responded. My hope is they focus on content instead of the sales. They still get their cut for acting as client/DRM

Competition has been great for us.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Saying Valve is dead because of bad sales is stupid. The fact you spent more on Gamersgate and Amazon, etc, is down to the fact they have improved upon prices.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think Valve made sales popular and thry have always done the same thing of starting off with low discounts and then building them up from there. And many of these are great deals, in my opinion

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree that Valve isn't dead. And the mediocre sale prices (which can't be all bad since tons of people love them) are not close to the top of the list of things that Valve should be improving.

Maybe they can focus on content and let the other retailers grab more market share as middle-men. They are still the big dog by virtue of their client.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly. They should be, and hopefully are, working on new games that everyone has been waiting for. And they are focusing on Source 2. The sales aren't disappointing (at least not to me) I have already spent over £145 and will be spending even more. People shouldn't be saying "Valve is dead".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I'm sorry, but if someone says "valve is dead" because they don't like the sales is being idiotic. Whether they're an idiot or not, who knows, but it is idiotic to make such an asinine statement.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, its not like 95% of these games were in summer, autumn or even big picture sale. Who gives a f*** about big picture? I don't, I am PC player so I don't need no stupid gamepad interface. So yeah, I am disappointed with Valve (I don't over dramatize it like OP to be saying "we lost Valve"). Sale achievements is just another topic that Valve ignores and acts like it doesn't exist. We get game releases of crappy games in ALPHA, that don't even state it, like Towns or WarZ and yet awesome games are denied on steam or forced to go through greenlight. Drakensang - The River of Time sits on greenlight while Bad Rats gets released?

Drakensang - The River of Time was originally released February 19, 2010 and Bad Rats 20 July 2009. Oh my, so much more "modern" game indeed.

Comment has been collapsed.

Isn't it nearly the same every time each sale? They will improve on the deals as the sale progresses. Things that are missing will show up in daily sales or flash sales. I like Big picture, just like many others. Some games are poorly optimised and require a gamepad, but it helps me with the fact I am currently using a LCD display and the text can be fuzzy. People who aren't silly research before they buy. Also, I do not think Steam have much to do with game descriptions. Whenever I have bought games in general I always look at reviews and see if there are problems as bad as WarZ. Remember, Greenlight is down to what users vote for, not Valve's fault. I personally don't care for sale achievements. They do not do anything, do they?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think big picture was great idea and gets more people into the community. And so out of hundreds of games Valve published on Steam 2 werent so good it doesnt mean we lost them. Valve was a juggernaut this year that continued to grow. And hating the sale after one day is a severe lack of patience

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think it's worth having a whine at Valve for, but neither would I defend them blindly. Last years Christmas Sale wasn't better sale wise, but more well though execution.

I wouldn't brag about greenlight, it seems that valve has no interest in inspecting those games before releasing them for purchase.

I will but they still need to actually review games before placing them on sale. Or at least have a huge warning that the game is still in alpha.

A high percentage of the games released on Greenlight have been great

If you mean War Z, it wasn't a Greenlight game. It was presumably waved through due to Steam already offering War, Inc in their free-to-play section.

Nor was Revelations 2012 a Greenlight game.

I think Steam should have some new retro-active achievements for people who bought a lot of games, or bundles. Loyal Steam customers stack the millions fast so Valve can feed their kids and take about a decade making each new game.

Yeah, they needed some sort of special achievements thing for games. So then it's not just buying games because they are 50%-75% off, but now you have an incentive to go buy a game and immediately have a goal set in mind. If you are one of those achievement hunters that is.

Coal would be nice, but we should be happy that they are even giving us these discounts. Do you see these kinds of things happening (Summer Sale, Autumn Sale, Winter Sale) to console gamers. No, not really. But I have nothing against console gamers anyhow, just stick with PC gaming because of these cheap games coming every few months.

Soooo...this is about the lack of achievements or event? Or am I misunderstanding the horrors that Valve has inflicted with their -33% up to -75% sale? Too low reductions? The wrong games? Or is it because they did not prepare for the end of the world and now they're doomed, lost forever?
