Blues are the most noisy that's for sure. I don't know if browns reds and blacks have a big difference.

All mechanical keyboards are louder than their membrane-based cheaper cousins. You won't find one as quiet as the membrane ones, but there is one you should try. Cherry MX Brown switches are about the quietest you can get for mechanical keys. The only way to get quieter is to pad the floor inside the keyboard with some durable foam.

I just did a bunch of research on mechanical keyboards last night, and ended up getting a board with Cherry MX Blues.
You want Browns — Cherry MX Browns. Those are the softest sounding. Blues are loud. Reds are in the middle. I don't know where Blacks fall.
Google "Mechanical Keyboard Guide." PC World has one that lets you listen to sound clips of Blues, Reds, and Browns in action.
And in my opinion, from what I have heard, you want the Das Keyboard. Not the blank one (unless you're crazy, or damn good). The regular Professional S or whatever. It's $140 but $120 through the holidays. That's not terrible for a great keyboard. I'm getting the Thermaltake one on Newegg. Blue switches, and blue glow-in-the-dark (LED backlit, in fact) keys. $80. With a $10 mail in rebate. Wanted the Das but wife put her foot down. IDGAF, getting a mechanical keyboard, and if I buy a CPU+RAM+Mobo upgrade, I'll buy a case and PSU for the old CPU/RAM/Mobo, build her a computer, give her the Thermaltake, and get my Das.

The Logitech G710+ is a fairly good option. It has the most silent switches, Cherry MX Brown, paired with rubber O-rings. The rubber O-rings may make it feel slightly less like a mechanical keyboard, but you shouldn't be bottoming out a mechanical keyboard anyways. The G710+ may not be the cheapest keyboard at $150, but it certainly has a couple extra features to back it up. It has backlit keys, extra macro keys, and a palm rest. From my personal experience, it's the best silent mechanical keyboard. Also, the drivers and too terrible.

You can't do that, because all the really satisfying keyboards to type on are super noisy.
From my extremely limited experience MX Browns or Topre switches are relatively quiet, but still give you some nice feedback, although not nearly as nice as typewriter, buckling spring, or MX Blue feedback.
