Why not combine them? Gallery style images, but still have the information (at the very least, number of entries) below them instead of rollover?

Agree. The 20-25px infoline below the image containing the time left and current number of entries will do the job, I think.

I like the new layout you're planing to make more than the current one :D
If possible I'd also mark which giveaways can or can't be entered(depending on the ammount of points you have).
Good luck with the new layout and I hope it's implemented :D

I like the new one but it makes things more difficult when using my phone. Which is what I use during most of the day when I am away from my computer. Right now I am on my phone and I have to hold my finger on the picture and wait a few seconds to see the details. Im sure I could get used to it but it is much easier the way it is.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. The new homepage concept is not bad, but personally I prefer to know how many entries, time left and the person who made the giveaway right away instead of having to rollover. I also prefer the "list" style instead of a grid.

I like this design but like to what Detruire said, I think at least the time left and points to enter should be listed below each image. In my opinion, everything else can later be revealed by a mouse over, but at least those two are essential.
Similar to what Hisuichan suggests below, but in a simpler design like this would be my suggestion
.

While I like the general idea, the lack of vital information used to decide whether to enter a giveaway or not (yes, I think most people enter a giveaway not only based on the game being given, but also on the number of points required, the number of people on it, the time 'till it finished, whether it's a group giveaway or not) is a big no-go.
By the way, the homepage as it is now is pretty much perfect. To improve it, I'd just implement some of Zo's addon capabilities like auto-load of new pages (quite useful) and the "ignoring" of games you already own or are not interested in.

I personally like the current design better. Having all the information visible is better than having to roll over each picture to get it.

This is what I suggested in S.Gifts chat. The text should be permanent, no rollover - that way everyone can immediately view all the necessary data of the giveaway, instead of having to rollover each individual giveaway.

i think with only images shown - the graphics rather than primarily text - it slows my browsing down. its just too much immediate information and it takes a second to process and interpret what games are available.
steamgifts as it is now, immediately shows the title in text so i can immediately spot titles i am interested in without getting distracted or momentarily overwhelmed by all the graphics and colour, where i have to focus on each image to discover the title. dont know if all that makes sense.
that, and im not a fan of having to put my mouse over things to find out the most important information (time left, p-cost and number of entrants)
the current site is perfect, and changing it around just for the sake of it would not be a positive. the current layout is functional, looks good and its quick to browse... i dont think graphical clutter just to make it look pretty, is the way to go.

I'd like it if giveaways for games I already have would be greyed/faded out too.

I'm a bigger fan of looking at lists of sortable data than of galleries of data, but if you were given the option of setting a different way to view the site as a preference (gallery view, compact table view, classic view, etc), I see no problem with that.
Some useful indicators like entry cost, time remaining, # entries, group-only, etc. are missing from the gallery view "at a glance." I really dislike having to roll over each and every item to get a summary of only a fraction of that information...perhaps if it was simply listed or superimposed on each graphic, instead of requiring you to roll over each item...

It looks nice but it's very impractical. Can't see anything without interacting with each individual object. I think it's important to be able to look with your eyes, not with your hands.

While it's a nice design, I don't think it works for this site. We need to be able to see key data at all time, such as points, public/group/private, number of entries is probably the most important too. I think the current hompeage in the "list style" is much easier to navigate and understand in general.

I think the old one works better. The fact you have to rollover everytime you want to view the details seems quite frustrating.
EDIT: Especially with the delayed slide-in of the info.

The below link is a rough concept for the homepage I was playing around with for the past couple of hours. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

As I said, it's a mock-up, but you can get a feel for the general idea. On the plus side, it's easier to scan larger images, and the giveaways take up nearly half the space. On the down side, you need to rollover to view information. Which do you prefer? Continue developing the gallery style homepage, or stick with the old one?
