Two main reasons I've witnessed:
1) Flat out lying
2) The price on the game's page isn't for the cheapest but for the most "optimal" seller, which basically means a combination of a cheap price and good ratings. The cheapest price still being available but from some random user with 11 upvotes and 3 downvotes or something.

1) Possible xD
2) But in this case there is only one seller. The seller list shows only that one entry.

I think it's VAT. I found this:
https://www.kinguin.net/de/eu-vat-changes-2015
Of course they would have to show the correct price on the front page as well. This is not the correct way to do this. And I am pretty sure this is a new development. They must have started doing this with the new webpage. It definitely didn't happen since 2015. ^^

Ok, now I tried to use the search from the dashboard, which is still the style of the old website. And voila, no additional cost (unless they add it later, I don't actually want to buy that game)..
EDIT: Yeah, if you try to go through with it, they add VAT later on.

it isn't by chance a 20% tax added onto the cost of the item like VAT?

Netherlands here and i don't get anything added, 42 euro.
Taxes, payment options cost, should all be at the end of the order, and you could get some more (minor) cost added, but usually not upfront.
Sidenote, never knew about this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/4lfmty/warning_dont_buy_anything_from_kinguin_details/
Ouch them asking your steam login information/teamview to do their support..
Never personally had issues with them though.

No, that's not what I am talking about. It's the base price that gets this increase. The buyer protections still comes on top of that.

I pretended to buy a copy of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.. the cart says $48.25 game + $5.79 buyer protection.
so it has a total of $52.98
======
That's what I see anyways. (I'm in USA)

I sometimes sell my leftover bundle keys on Kinguin for wallet. And I wanted to spend some of that wallet now. But something seems really wrong with the pricing. Let's take Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order as a random example ( it happens with other games as well, or maybe even with all of them).
So I am on the front page. I see a certain price (47.45$). I click on the link.I see a different price for a second (48.25$). This price is only slightly higher. This might be some fee or whatever. Wouldn't be a big deal. But then the price changes to 57.42$, which is around 10$ more than the price it showed me on the front page. Anybody knows what's going on there?
In this particular case the only seller is G2Play.net. On the game page I can see (before the price changes) that this game from this seller is listed below for 47.30$. Which is exactly the amount it costs when you buy on their page directly. But I am not interested in using that site. I mostly use my wallet for grey market sites. I rarely ever use real money there. Anyway, I could understand 48.25$, which might be the original price plus a Kinguin fee or whatever. But I really don't understand where those extra 10$ come from. This is almost full price, which kind of defeats the purpose of these sites. Even if this is just my wallet generated from bundle games. I still want to know why I should pay so much extra.
Anyway, if someone knows what's going on there, I would be grateful for an explanation.
