We've all seen it: A giveaway for a triple-A game, the person is brand new, clearly doesn't understand how SteamGifts works.

It's been suggested: Let's yell at them on the create giveaway page. But heck, we know they're incapable of reading and they'll create giveaways erroneously anyway.

Solution: Add a drop-down at the top of the page.

"What Giveaway are you creating?" - Starts out blank and won't let you submit unless you select an option.
The options: "I am giving away a game from my Steam Inventory or a Key" or "I want someone to give me a game."

If the second option is selected and the form submitted, the imbecile is moved to a page where everything they filled out is ignored and it simply says "That's not how SteamGifts works! Sorry chum!" and a big giant sad face - oh and of course a simple explanation of how it DOES work - That part is pretty important. But the sad face needs to be there, because it's fun.

Maybe a clown sad face. I dunno.

You already stated they're incapable of reading so how would that help in your scenario? :)

You're probably right, but I doubt 100% of them will. At least it would peel off some of them.

Part of the problem seems to be not just an inability (or perhaps, unwillingness) to read, but not being fluent in English. From what I've seen, in most cases the fake giveaways are started by East Europeans who likely are no where near fluent in English. So more words (and even sad faces :P) may not do much to solve the problem.

Something I did not consider, thank you for the secondary perspective as you are completely right.

I guess then an additional suggestion is volunteer translators for the FAQ...!

Yep, but the FAQs are already in several languages, and that doesn't seem to help.

People just ignore the FAQs I guess. Imo, it should be obligatory to read them (and provide proof that you have read them fully by way of a small 'test').

Oh hey, so they are. Guess I proved my own point about lack of reading.

Irony.

There are a few translations for the FAQ already.

EDIT: Guess I need to type faster.

Do NOT underestimate people's stupidity and naivety. They'll still try... cuz "fwee stuuf" and common sense is thrown out of the window. :P

Honestly, I think that it should just not allow new users to create a giveaway for something that costs more than 20 points to enter until they have 1 received feedback.

Not going to cut down all the fakes, but sure would cut down a lot.
