I'm Greek. But seriously, where exactly is the monstrosity? It looks fine to me. Would you prefer burgers, donuts, hot dogs, and other shit? o.O BTW, this is not a traditional dish. :P

I know, it doesn't look like a traditional dish, but it surely does NOT look bad. :/

Yeah well my point is there is no middle Eastern food, there is Lebanese food, Turkish food, Egypt food etc. You can't lump them all together.

I am from Turkey and İzmir(city). There is a culture around olive oily dishes here so it's not alien to me. It's kind of messy, I mean i have seen many dishes with that combination but there is too much oil in it. Some people like that actually not me though. :D

Wait, that's exactly what I saw in the cafeteria today! :-D I just don't recognize this particular type of tray... so I'm guessing Masaryk University... the cafeteria at the Faculty of Law? :-)

Yup, the computer science people go to the same place and enjoy/suffer the same meals. :-) (And it might also be on today's menu in other places.)
In any case, what I consider barbaric is eating tomatoes in any way other than raw.

I'd take it it's an attempt to put together a "modern" version of an otherwise traditional recipe. You know, those "deconstruct" the dish recipes.
Like all food if it tastes good, it's all good (well, provided it doesn't end up giving you the runs...).
However, it's definitely not something a tourist who's looking to try some traditional dishes / local cuisine would be happy to see on their plate. On those terms I'd consider it an insult too.

You're supposed to cook the beans with the olive oil and tomato paste. That's how my fiance makes it (+ onion). And what the hell is the white stuff?
If someone was attempting to put together a "Middle Eastern" dish I think they just read the ingredient list and skipped the instructions.
