That's awfully nice. Given the behavior of all other free AV, too nice. Are you sure there's no catch?

Nice.
I wonder if it has better protection and detection than Bit Defenders free AV?

Used Kaspersky for several years, it's a good product in my experience. This going to be partially free to a degree does bring some concerns though, as the increased easy of access will mean that more viruses will eventually try and target users of this AV. Hopefully this won't become the next Norton.

It will clean just it. No payment required. There weren't even any prompts to buy the full product.

I've been using free Kaspersky for about 2 years (from what I get, it's been available for Russia only), so yeah, I can confirm that you get full basic functionality. Kaspersky can still be overzealous sometimes, but considerably less so than before. It's also currently eating about 0,1% of my ancient CPU. And it actually catches stuff. And I've only got messages to buy full product maybe a couple of times when it was on sale.

If it continues to work the same way it did before for Russia, all you have to do is renew free license once a year. It's more or less permanent (although nothing lasts forever, obviously).

when kaspersky was a good antivirus it was payed, dont warry about ram and other resources
now kaspersky under sanctions, antivirus is one of the lowest, use resources lot af, no money, and they totally suck and they finaly deside to create free antivirus.
now there r lots of better antiviruses, free and without malvare from kremlin
how about no!

@there's not much purpose to worrying about malware from the Kremlin.@
best joke ever, i must remember it

If evidence of Kaspersky was discovered that showed them working with the Kremlin to give people malware, they'd be done. Russia would face even more international issues than they do today.
Same thing if evidence of Norton/McAfee was discovered that showed them working with the NSA/CIA to give people malware.
The only way that either side would risk revealing that sort of trump card is if what they gained made it worth it. Government computers might, military suppliers might, Joe Random's personal home PC doesn't.

maybe u r right, but i dont want to use products from company who support war in my country

I've been testing / monitering it all day long, and if anything, it uses slightly less ram than Avast, and seems to also use slightly less CPU (better optimized alogorithms).
And since most are / were already using Avast as their free AV, this to me seems like a positive change. Firefox seems noticeably snappier with Kaspersky to me. I have no issues with this AV at all, at the moment.
So for people on the fence reading, I'd recommend changing.

I used Process Explorer. The difference in RAM usage between the two is negligible tbh (and it does somewhat fluctuate too under normal usage)...but in any event they both use well under 300 megs memory total when idle which is very acceptable for an AV.
What I am much more impressed by is the superior performance of Kaspersky relative to Avast...and for gaming, that's huge.

It actually uses much more memory than 20 megs, RAM is complicated (private bytes & working set) and you can't just go by what Windows itself states. That's why I use a special app to measure this. But as I previously mentioned, it's very much similar usage with both because I measured both the same way ツ

Yes, I use Process Explorer too. What Windows states is actually the value you get in "WS Private" (Working Set Private) column inside PE. I'm only interested in that value because:
Private Working Set – Is similar to Working Set, but excludes the shared memory. This is only the the amount of memory in use by the process itself and isn’t shared among other processes. Private Working Set is perhaps a more accurate indication of how much physical memory the process itself is using, and is also the default memory column for Task Manager in Windows Vista/7/8.

I mean, I don't mind about shared memory with other processes because Windows usually manages shared memory pretty well. Here are my values shown in Process Explorer:

just run kaspersky for test - computer almost stuck, 1.3gb ram gone, hdd almost dead, network almost stop working, cpu use 50-70% power, even cant use browser
while use avast i can do all stuff i do before, even online gaming
both tests was full scan

Kaspersky did not allow me to choose an install location and only showed the C:\ drive as an option. Out of curiosity, why are you concerned about the install location?

Anyone found a way to renew the license in case it expires by next year?

I don't understand if also Internet Security is free...

Kaspersky has just released their Windows antivirus software completely free with no ads or nagging unlike some competitors. You get all the basic antivirus functionality and then stuff like parental controls is in the full version.
They are slowly rolling it out so your region of the globe might not have it available yet. Here's the link for USA/Canada: https://usa.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus
As long as you're not under investigation for collusion with Russia, or the ones investigating collusion with Russia, this is probably a good deal. :)
