To properly answer the OP's question, yep, we've heard, and it's awesome news.

The follow-up "controversy" now centers around everyone bitching because they used a fan-made patch without crediting the anonymous maker of the patch, nor the known maker of a tool used to insert the patch.

Yeah... yeah... kinda sad. Personally, if I'd written something and Gog used it to patch the most-requested game on their site so it could finally be released I'd just be delighted. "Credit" wouldn't even come to mind, I'd just be amazed they saw fit to use it and, in their eyes, make it "better" for their customers. It's inclusion would be a complement!

If they add achievements and workshop, that would be awesome.

Can I ask where you read about the steam release in a few months? I've been searching to find out when the steam version might be coming out, but every article just says it's "planned".
