I'm pretty sure what's meant are (most importantly your own) trade threads. You can collapse comments, but after a refresh they will be expanded again. If there would be an option to permanently collapse (hide) the comments you could easily hide the offers you already accepted/declined and only have those of interest to you expanded, giving a much smoother experience looking through your thread. If there's a new reply to a collapsed comment it could either expand automatically or have a clearly visual marker stating "new comment" or something.
I was just about to open my own, then I found this not-so-great thread. @OP: Feel free to quote my explanation is the description as this won't get very far if no one understands what you meant.

Looking at my many pages filled with comments I could use a function to gray out or bracket comments, is that planned?
