I think not, this a common bug for F2Ps, try smelting some weapons you don´t use to save space

It's the usual bug before the delete someone's Steam account. Oh well, it was nice having you around

Not sure if F2P item cap works in a different way but you will most likely be forced to delete some items if you launch the game while being over cap. If you don't it will automatically delete any items that don't fit into your inventory.

They recently changed that, yeah.
Going over the limit will eventually cause deletion.
I don't believe this is limited to launching the game, so if you got tradable stuff (too lazy to check meself) make another acc (f2p still has 50 slots), and use sandboxie to store the excess items there until you've limited your backpack again.
