Which of these will you plan to buy?
How is that a good deal for a controller? I'm all about "PC master race", but I wouldn't mind having a controller too, just for backup. Still, this price for a mere controller is absurd.

steam controllers make playing every steam game via a controller possible...
Right now I can play about 650 of my Steam games with regular controllers but with the steam controller I could play all 2,700+ games with wireless steam controller...

It's wireless too? Even worse. I'd have to charge batteries every damn hour. xD Anyway, I would give up to 20 euros for a controller, but there's no way in hell I'll give 38,49 euros for this steam controller. Keyboard + mouse are better anyway.
Irrelevant, but steam link says that there's no stock left. I don't want to buy it, but I'm just saying it because I'm curious about the reason. xD

The steam controller is really eco friendly, you don't need to change batteries frequently, they last a long long long time

have my steam controller for almost a year, and is still running on the batteries it came with, i am a KB+MS apologist aswell, and as such i say the Steam controller is the best controller for PC players, with all the customization options and methods to control your games, it made aiming with a controller no longer a cringe fest for me, i even played CS GO with it, and got kills.

Even the PC master race needs a controller for certain types of games. I'd rather run headfirst into a wall than try to play a fast-paced platformer with a keyboard for example. A wireless controller is also great if you want to output to a TV and get away from the PC for some games.

True - for games like WWE, NBA, racing games, etc. But meehh, they're not good anyway. But I don't mind playing platformer games with a keyboard. And nah, wireless controllers, keyboards, mouses, etc, are a pain in the ass, because the batteries don't hold for long.

Well for what it's worth I have a couple of old Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2's and the batteries last quite a long time so it may vary from one product to another. They are not rechargeable though and use traditional batteries, unless of course you put your own rechargeables in them.

i agree that a good racing is tons more fun on a controller that it is on a keyboard, but never had a problem myself with platformers, if they were on PC always used the arrow keys, kinda felt validated once i found out that most of the Super Meat Boy speed runners, witch is a very precise run, on a very precision requiring game, use the keyboard themselves.

Well I don't think I could make that work for me. I kind of need a D-pad. I find using keyboard keys for a platformer somewhat awkward by comparison. I should have said 2D platformer to be more precise. Now for a 3D platformer it would be even worse. In that case I want an analog stick instead, period. Not that 3D platformers are terribly prevalent on PC, although there are a few more these days.

keyboard keys have clear resistances and activation points and reset points
Okay, but so does a D-pad on a controller. So how would that make a keyboard 'more precise' than a gamepad? If anything, I find a keyboard to be less precise because it wasn't designed to be used as a game controller and it is more awkward having to use different fingers for Up, Down, Left, and Right directions, and it gets even worse when you add diagonals and transitioning back and forth between all of those. This is where a D-pad shines. I totally understand what you mean about analog sticks though, which is why I wouldn't generally use one when I am playing something that is best relegated to an input mechanism that utilizes a 4 or 8 directional control and doesn't need variable 'throttle' in those directions either.

Except comfort absolutely has an effect on precision, and that precision suffers on a keyboard because of how awkward I find the aforementioned situation above to be. In a similar way to trying to aim in a first-person shooter with a gamepad analog stick over a mouse, as far as I am concerned it is suboptimal. In fact, so much so that it detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
edit: I wasn't referring to any specific platform and I have never been a PlayStation guy, but if I recall correctly PS controllers don't have a true D-pad because it is essentially 4 separate buttons, albeit very close together and laid out in the shape of a D-pad. That's still way better than a keyboard though in the case that I described for the exact same reason, so as it stands it has no bearing for me on the discussion.

THE BEST controller experience I've ever had. The Steam Controller configuration software is insane!
Without it, the Steam controller is nothing.
I play all the racing games, especially racing sims, with pads of Steam Controller--very precise and smooth, most important--parts never wear out.
I don't play 1st and 3rd person shooter with it or other controllers. I used to play 3rd person shooter games with controller like Xbox 360 controller, but later, I found using mouse(trackball) to look around is more comfortable for me.
I can play shoot 'em up and platformer with Steam Controller too.
If you need a controller that can use as keyboard and mouse, then buy it.
If you want to play games with good controller experience just like using Xbox 360 controller or PS Dual Shock, then don't buy it.
You can't get better experience with Steam Controller.

Maybe when it is available on my country instead of the ''available soon''...

Amazon probably sends to your country, I'm actually thinking of buying mine through amazon.

I'd love to try the steam controller, but it doen't ships to Brazil. Sounds like a great deal for those who can buy it.

I tried wireless first to a TV far from my router and it worked somewhat ok but lagged with games such as Lethal League making it not worthwhile for fast action gaming.
However I hooked it up directly to router and to a close TV and the lag was extremely low... next I will buy a HDMI cable and test and just use the steam link for controllers and keyboard/mouse connect.
Let me know how your link works for you...

Dual Shock 4 is nicer than xbox360 cause it works with bluetooth instead of proprietary receiver dongle crap like the xbox ones, and both plugged in and wireless instead of having to choose one or the other. And has a touch pad. It might go on sale less though, but is totally worth it.

The only thing that's a bit fiddly about it is you need to run this emulator to get full functionality out of it: https://github.com/Jays2Kings/DS4Windows
I was a bit disappointed when I learned that after buying it, however it hasn't posed a problem and I've been happier with it than my previous wired xbox 360 controller. I don't know how that would combine with the steam link though, pretty sure it wouldn't make a difference.

YAY for enjoying the Steam link so much!
Hope the controller only adds to that, you deserve it!
I checked at Amazon Germany and it is nearly 71 Euro there.
Steamlink is about 55 Euro.
Still a steep price tag.
Don't even know if I can order it from Amazon US, but I do know that shipping costs will be high and customs will want a big cut too!
Think this has to wait.

I already have a steamlink, and I use 360 controllers with it. I wouldn't mind trying a steam controller but I wouldn't pay much for it, because what I've got works great for what I like to do. If the controllers drop to like €10-15 in some sale I might consider it.
The steamlink is totally worth it though if you can't use a direct HDMI cable but have access to ethernet at your TV - or at least 802.11ac wifi. Anything less and I wouldn't bother.

None, i own a steam controller and got steam link from $1 icey bundle

Game UK has now a sale on Steam Link and Steam Controller, which means more reasonable delivery pricing in Europe. Notice: "We are unable to ship orders weighing over 2kg outside of the UK."

Hi all...
I got a steam link on the recent deal on STEAM with it bundled with the game ICEY and got the game returned and credit back... thus the steam link was just a dollar with shipping about $8... Total 9$ inc shipping.
I installed it yesterday and absolutely LOVE IT!! I have wired controllers hooked to it now but desperately wanted to get steam controllers but at 50$ each it was expensive not to mention the price for shipping.
Now they are 35$ each USD on Steam...!! OMGGGG!!
Better yet is you can get them also on Amazon.com for the special price of $35 each PLUS if you have amazon prime the shipping is FREE!! I do have amazon so am excited to buy 4 of them with free shipping!!
The steam link is also marked down to $15 on amazon.com with prime so free shipping!!
I SOOOOOO recommend the steam link. And I'm sure to love the steam controllers!!
It has opened up the gaming experience like SOOOOOOO awesomely at my home. The convenience of the big picture program through Steam on the TV is the best!
Happy bargain hunting!!
NOTICE: I just noticed at gaming stores like GAME STOP you can buy them directly at store now for $35 during this sale and avoid shipping charges.... amazon.com is back to expensive rates as they are stocked out...
UPDATE: Just got back from Game Stop store with one Steam controller and ordered 2 more to be shipped to my house with no shipping charges from Game Stop. I'll see how this one works.
Update 2: My 12 year old just tried it out with Rocket League and tried to configure it to work like the Xbox 360 controller... He seems to think he still will prefer the Xbox 360 controller... So we shall see in the long run if it will be recommended after all... Stay tuned for more updates.
