It's a brilliant song, so it was redone by several bands/performers. The original is by Blue Öyster Cult, from 1976. The song has a connection to several games also. I first heard this song in a trailer for "Ripper" (1996), a video game with live action scenes, featuring Christopher Walken who has at least one more connection to this song, because he needed more cowbell.

My favourite covers are by HIM, Apollo440 and the early early Evanescence version, the only recording is from a very unprofessional filming of one of their performances when they weren't famous. Wow the stories around this song...
"In April 2009, bootleg DVD copies of an Evanescence gig went up for sale on eBay. The DVD features Evanescence's show at Vino's in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 7, 1999, recorded "with a semi-good camcorder by a fan". "

Thanks for the other versions, and yeah i known the apollo 440 version well too, as i am an apollo 440 fan, it's a shame they make like an album every decade, it's even questionable if they still exist but you seem them sporadically still do shows.
Evanescence take a very different slower approach to it, maybe a bit too slow but she sings it beautifully.

I first heard the song in the movie "The Frighteners" (1996) starring Michael J. Fox (his last leading role in a film) and directed by Peter Jackson. The original song is still the best to me, but I'm going to have to check out your recommended covers 👍

I first heard the song in the mini series "Stephen's King The Stand". It also appears in the original Prey game.

Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
40, 000 men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet)
40, 000 men and women everyday (redefine happiness)
Another 40, 000 coming everyday (we can be like they are).
Was watching the movie unhinged with Russell Crowe yesterday, this is a soundtrack from it, great movie.
