And here I thought this was going to be a thread about not even bothering to attempt puzzles....
Well, if you're looking for tips, there is the Zelgh Magic Guide to Basic SG Puzzling. That should help.

Here's some tips I've picked up by going through some puzzles. If they aren't purely quiz-based, there are a bunch of common tricks used that you can spend a little time poking around for.
Learn some Photoshop or GIMP - everything on a computer can be represented as numbers (letters, colors, transparency, etc.), and a lot of the fun puzzles that aren't just a quiz typically involve some image editing/number conversion using different number bases. People hide things in color channels and RGB values most often, so learn to manipulate channels and color input/output levels. Invert colors or flip parts of the image. Use the eyedropper tool to check RGB/greyscale values. It sounds more complicated than it actually is.
Learn what QR codes and data matrix barcodes look like. There are tons of online tools to read them.
Always check EXIF data with Jeffrey's EXIF Viewer, convert stuff between different number bases with XLATE (although this doesn't cover all bases that people might use), use things that decrypt basic cryptography like ROT-based stuff with something like this...
Check all words carefully for double meanings or hints. If something is hosted on imgur, take the file extension out of the URL to go to the description page, which sometimes has hints. Use Google Image Search to do reverse lookups of pictures (works on animated GIFs sometimes too). Save puzzle files to your computer and give it different file extensions (zip and txt are most commonly useful). Open them in a Hex editor and look around for fishy stuff.
If you end up with something that's 5 characters long (numbers and letters, upper and/or lowercase), stick it after a steamgifts.com/giveaway/ URL and see what happens.

Don't bother with puzzles. Most of them are too hard and time consuming and then I found out it's a game I already own. I wish they'd stop with these silly puzzles.

You know what's worse than the puzzles existing? Weirdos who pretend they solved them. Smh.
