To upgrade, or not to update? -That's the question. | Windows 10 vs Windows 7

For me (on an 8.1 new-ish laptop), I'm waiting a few more months for W10 to get updated and improved upon before "upgrading" to it. I'll do it now, but too lazy to do a fresh install... don't have an ext HDD to store my data for one (my 1.5 TB ext died earlier this year :/ )

I'd say wait until the last few days to update, to make sure that you get a version that works properly.
Also, Windows 10 will almost literally watch you sleep. It tracks EVERYTHING. It's like an NSA agent sitting next to you at all times.

7 until I need a 10-only feature - which will probably be DirectX 12, one day.

was a fan of 7 for a long time since early beta , that's ideal OS to replace XP
switched to 10 as it went to public beta and I got used to it very quick (since I never even since 8 and 8.1)

I tried to upgrade, at some point during the upgrade it crashed. I had to reinstall Win 7.
Re-downloaded the upgrade, tried again, same thing.
So I'm staying with Win 7 for now.
If you want to upgrade, MAKE A BACKUP!

Most of people who are voting for Win7 have never upgraded and are basing their statements on "rumours" or "what they have heard/read", you should upgrade at least for having your PC activated with Win10 before the free offer expires, if you don't like it ATM you can just reinstall Win7 but still have your Win10 licence in case you're willing to upgrade again in the future.

I personally like Win10 a lot it's (almost) the perfect blend between Win7 and 8, the hybrid shutdown is great, your PC starts in just a few seconds even if you don't have a SSD, the start menu is pretty nice, DirectX12 is coming.

When upgrading you CAN choose to keep your files and programs, though it's always better to backup (using an external HDD or whatever) and make a clean install.

I've got Win 10 on my laptop for some time now. Although it's quite old and never was meant for playing games on it, I've noticed, that games perform much better on Win 10 then before when I got Win 7. There was one serious crush by now. No other issues.

Going on that, I don't see a reason to upgrade just yet. But I should upgrade in time if I were you (it is going to be better for gaming, especially with dx12). I have it installed on my laptop, but I don't game on that one. It is faster then 7 though. I also like the UI, although in comparison to windows 7, they are at equal level. Some stuff is easier in windows 7 and some in windows 10. It just depends on what you mainly do. I suggest you do some more research on the specific stuff you'll use a lot.

I was very skeptical towards windows 10 at first due to rumors, waited for a long time before I decided to upgrade.
But, I'm enjoying it so far, not having any problems with it yet and can't say I miss windows 7.

I did disable a few unwanted stuff like Cortana(?) and did a few small tweaks here and there though.
But yeah, simply put, I'm not finding win 10 to be bad, and I don't feel I want to revert back to win 7.

Many of my non-Steam games stopped working after switching to Windows 10, probably because of their DRM. ):
You can always try it out and revert if needed.

I m sticking with 8.1 for now. Windows automatically downloaded 10 but i m not gonna install.

Just updated from Windows 8.1 to 10 (Dell notebook) and the driver update I had to make even solved a problem (Intel control panel was not showing). Everything seems to be working fine and better now.
