Pretty self explanatory; I can get G&K for ~$3 on GreenManGaming, or I can get Civ IV complete for $7.50 US.

Not sure which I should get. I'm a fan of Civ games; never played the fourth, only the 3rd and 5th.

So yeah, any help would be nice ^_^

EDIT: Thought it was clear enough that I had the base game (Civ V), but apparently not. Yes, I have the abse game, I know G&K isn't standalone.

Gods and Kings isn't standalone I believe. With that said, it along with Civ 5 are far better imo.

Yes, it's an expansion to the game but it requires the basegame.

I have the base game, I was just wondering which I should get regarding quality and pricing.

Oh, and may I ask what you like more about V (with G&K) than IV?

Civ IV.

I (along with friends) disliked some things in V, and IV is just our prefered game.

Sadly I agree with that. I disliked some things with V too, but as a friend gifted it to me I'm not going to complain much (I think it was one of those XCOM preorders)

I'll stick to IV (I have yet to try V with G&K) but if you already have V I think you'd better go for the expansion pack. If you have none, beware that G&K is NOT standalone.

G&K is pretty spiffy and made 5 a lot more interesting for me than vanilla was.

Well, from what I've read, the AI is still derpy as ever, and honestly, the espionage looks kind of...meh.
Not sure how espionage works in IV, but in V, much like III, it's just a menu.

Religion looks interesting though.

the religion mechanic is much better in g&k than 4 IMO, it really has an impact on the growth of your civs whereas the religion in 4 was just kinda a booster or a detractor to your civs relationships

Yeah, and I've read that you can make your own religion (?), which sounds pretty entertaining to conquer the world in the name of Deadpool or some shit.

Religion is indeed better in Civ V, because you can customize your religion (and name it). For example, you can get "holy warrior" to buy pre-industrial units with faith to defend the Deadpoolism.

Civ4 >> Civ5

(except for the lack of achievements, but it's a detail)

You don't really need achievements so long as you can get a good time out of playing a game, I heard.

I know but not everyone think the same ;)

I hear Civ V was an overall improvement, but some people did still prefer Civ IV, as it is with almost any game.

Civ IV is one of the best Civ. Civ V is good, but Civ IV is great.

Civ V God and Kings would be a good choice, with spy and religion improvements. I've not played the 4th but I don't like the ideas of stacked units

Or there's this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AMKTR48/

  • Sid Meier's Civilization V: Game of the Year Edition
  • Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods and Kings
  • Sid Meiers Civilization IV: The Complete Edition
  • The Stronghold Collection

All for $19.99.

It's obviously more expensive, but it's still a decent deal, particularly for those who either don't own Civ V or don't own the GOTY edition.

Civ IV still looks pretty good, and is generally better than V.

Well you've played both 3 and 5, which of those do you prefer? If the answer is 3 probably go with 4, if the answer is 5 get G&K.
