Lucky I know this is sarcasm. Sadly, I got it bundled.

Okay, editing post. I could have sworn that was another of those online crafting ones I was avoiding.

state of decay is the nearest experience to getting some dumbass from a surrounded house and driving them home every five minutes simulator

Lmao, so damn true. Or when hoarding items, which is even worst.
Lost one of my main characters doing this, it was like a bait when i got inside a house, house got crowded with dozens of zombies when i was grabbing stuff. I got really pissed tbh, got inside the house stealth mode, didn't do anything stupid, zombies moved in from the backyard all of a sudden, way too many to handle inside a house, character was torn apart in seconds.

Just to confirm, in Dead Island you can set the campaign in the Options to play it as Single Player. That's what do. Open world, many and beautiful detailed places to visit, good amount of missions, thousands of zombies, and zero annoying players in your way... Completely alone (:P). One of my favorites games ^_^

Nah, with a good build and modded weapons, it's challenging but very doable. The original is my favorite zombie game to date.

Well, this is not open world, but it is by far the best zombie game you will ever play
You will cry if you play this game, and you will cry even more if you play season 2.
Don't confuse this game with The walking dead: Survival Instinct, that game is an abomination.

Survival Instinct is a fun stealth game in my opinion. Telltale's TWD has constant freezing during scene loads / autosaves, enough to ruin any enjoyment I might get from the game.
Its also nothing like what I'm asking. SI is closer to what I want, though the areas in the game tend to be no larger than a block or two in size.

That was only edited in after I found someone post Minecraft.

"Zafehouse: Diaries" might work. Also, "Project Zomboid".
Of course, I'll always recommend Telltale's TWD Season 1 if you want a good story focused zombie game.

there is coming a new zombie game also open world but i forgot the name :/

The Dead Linger? That's still in development, but it looks quite promising. It can be played solo or multi.

I not sure about the "open world" part, but Dying Light definitely isn't a single-player game. P

Actually Dying Light is; it has sp, coop, and mp modes. I know this because my bf was looking at it a few months ago and pointed it out to me, as something we might want to look into when it comes out. I generally try to only get games that have a sp option because I never play with anyone except him.

Then I stand corrected. Everything I've seen about this game has been multiplayer and/or co-op. I guess I was misinformed.

Single player, open world, zombie? It's not PC, but Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. Zombie people, zombie animals, settlement defense... Whole lot of stuff to do.

Looking to get that one, just need to find a double pack with the original.

Minecraft REALLY isn't what I want. That is a construction game with no real goals at all.

I don't really consider that one. It even has peaceful and creative mode to play without enemies. I want a reason for doing stuff.

Not really a Zombie game, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R is worth a look!

I recommend this too. There are zombies and zombie-esque enemies, but you'll be coming up against dudes with rifles and mutants much more frequently

Beaten both multiple times.
And they are Ghouls. Mutants are more like orcs / trolls.

You got something wrong on the internet, it was going to happen.

Oh, and...
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ghoul
"Ghouls or necrotic post-humans, [1] are decrepit, rotting, zombie-like >>>mutants<<<."
Kindly go fuck yourself.

Pretty much everything is 'mutants', even the cows. But most aren't called such.
Comment has been collapsed.
Isn't that what Dreakon was trying to say?
Ghouls are mutants called Ghouls and the cattle are mutants called Brahmin?

One of the games I've been playing on my PS3 recently is Yakuza: Dead Souls (a game I'll recommend to zombie fans with the system, even without prior knowledge of the series), and it makes me want to take down a lot more rotting corpses. Other than the Dead Island series, Dead Rising series and State of Decay, are there any I should be aware of on Steam?
I'm not looking for the online ones like Nether or Day Z. Not a fan of playing with other people most of the time.
I also don't want construction games AKA Minecraft clones. I don't find them fun.
