Skyrim is basicly the same thing, compared to Daggerfall or Morrowind. Causual shit for kids. Mostly on XBOX.

Definitely agree. Both the industry and the FPS community as a whole have suffered because of Call of Duty. The past ten years have been awful in terms of creativity because every company and their mother wants to either make a casual war-themed shooter, space marine shooter or zombie shooter. Seriously, it's gotten to the point where the fighter craze of the 90s seemed varied in comparison. I don't think I've ever seen a worse community either. (outside of possibly League of Legends or Dota 2)

Everyone download shootmania! :-O

That's your opinion, point I was making is that shooters are still coming out that take skill. Plus its free right now in beta and will have free mods when it releases.
I think its really fun and well done personally,

I played in alpha and shootmania is a lot of fun.

Yeah I must be insane, maybe I should just invest in 100 dollars of call of duty.

No clue, didn't even check if there was bots, sorry...
Its not that big a download though and is in free Beta right now on steam(Says its a demo buts it beta).

Yeah I feel like steam should throw it in the free section for now...or open a beta section possibly.
Have fun :-)!

I don't play games as much as I used to and kinda suck at playing CS (depends how much time passed between play sessions), but love it nonetheless. Haven't played any CoD in about 2 years, tried Black Ops2 on the recent free weekend and well, after few hours almost always had positive score (depends on map since hate a few). Weapon balance really sucks and sniping is pretty much useless what I loved doing in CoD4. Map design is Ok or even good on some (raid and Hijack), but most of them suck.

Thing is the way the games are made its making money. As long as there getting money why change it?

I miss the days when there was a lot more variety in the popular games and it wasn't mostly one genre. Whatever one may think about CoD ruining shooters, shooters also are ruining gaming and there is a lot less variety in games being released. I know I won't be pleased if gaming ends up being just shooters and indie games, and that is what it's starting to drift towards.

Do I have to pretend I'm surprised?? Of course COD fucked everything up, I mean, I like COD, but hell, it's too fucking casualized that the servers are full of damn kids, and now every fag with a console and internet is considered a gamer because of this.
Not only that, but also COD paved the way for shitty games development, different companies tried to copy the formula and ended up bringing crap games, no wonder this last generation was pretty bad.

You know, it's odd. When I played Modern Warfare 2 MP during a free weekend I criticized it exactly for being a clunky, messy, awkward, and not like previous games I played. It felt like I was playing as a lardass with strawberry jelly goggles parading around in brown escheresque clusterfuck mazes with a gun that couldn't even shoot straight. I couldn't understand at the time how anybody could consider that game to be a quality shooter. Nowadays I accept that CoD is basically a casual game and my hate is now directed more towards the series' effects on the industry than its own merits.

although the product featured is not CoD ... you get the point:
EA in a Nutshell (Similar applies to Activision, etc.)

Sadly, for many companies, making a good game is no longer the goal the goal. Making a game that makes a ton of money is the goal. We often have to rely on indie companies to create games for the sake of creating good games. While that's far from terrible, it's too bad that corporate bigwigs had to invade this industry and do what they've done. Luckily, gamers in general seem to be starting to get tired of company's like EA's bullshit. Sequel after sequel, nothing unique, money grubbing, etc etc. Maybe we'll continue to see a shift away from corporate bigwigs attempting to make as much money as possible and see large companies actually try to make games for the sake of making awesome games again.

I got a new roommate this year and he walked in on me playing the original dead space.
He asked me how I can play anything so childish then couple days later said some shit about Dark Souls.
This pissed me off more than I care to admit mostly because all he plays is Fifa, COD and farmville (and called dead space childish).
Also, when Blops2 came out he bought it right out of the gate, played a few rounds and has not touched it since.

PC Gamer interview with John Gibson about casual multiplayer games
Totally awesome article, which "hit the nail on the head".
What do you guys think? I agree absolutely with everything
