SQUAKE has a virus?
I received my key this morning, and I tried to install the game. However, Steam kept pausing in the middle in the of the download. So, I uninstalled the game and re-installed it. This time, the game installed, but I could not launch it because Steam kept popping up an error message. So, I verified the integrity of the files, and it had one file corrupted. So, I thought I should re-install it again, and it still didn't work.

Then, I figured out why I couldn't play the game. My BTS 2017 blocked the game.exe for SQUAKE.

Not sure if it is a false alarm or not, but... My BTS has never ever blocked a game from Steam before. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

My Steam discussion for it is here as well http://steamcommunity.com/app/526920/discussions/0/152392549355674326/

Gen.Trojan.Heur

That means it's a generic heuristics detection. Heuristics is an algorithm that AV software uses to find malware that is not yet in their database, it looks at the way certain applications behave and decides if that application is potentially malicious.

SQUAKE seems to have ticked a few boxes in their Trojan list, but it will almost certainly be a false positive.

It happens to me every once in a while too with different games, they are always false positives (I hope). I just let the developer know on the forum and they report it to the antivirus company.

Upload the .exe here: https://virustotal.com/

And check the results, if NOD32, Kaspersky and other good AV software does not detect a virus then it is a false positive. In that case, report here: http://www.bitdefender.com/submit/

I'm using the latest version (9.0.408.1) of ESET NOD32 and have had no warning to date.

Better over sensitive than not sensitive enough in such cases so nope, his software doesn't suck.

All of my this, though I'll admit an ad/sxmcript blocking browser plugin is a mainstay nowadays. Some sites are more than happy to open "stupid shit" for you.

If it was as easy as you said lol. You never know on today's interwebs, better safe than sorry. People have such attitude and then create threads "I was hacked" etc.

I honestly feel sorry for anybody that produces games through Game Maker / Studio, RPG Maker, and many oter "ready-made engine" setups, as they tend to trip the most false positives and thus garner a lot of bad PR. Something similar happened to Risk of Rain long ago and a particularly charismatic (read as: loud and obnoxious) user almost got it removed from Steam when Kaspersky was tripping false on it.
