That user sadly won something from me a while back.

Seems to me, he just buffing himself using another profiles, like http://www.steamgifts.com/user/Gwynhbleidd and GA with invite. Fucking pathetic.

Well, not entirely pathetic, just.... interesting.

in case you're really serious - this giveaway didn't produce any CV. for group/invite GAs you need 5 entries. look at my profile. i have lots of group giveaways with less than 5 entries lately. and i got absolutely no CV for them.

Is this a joke? I'm not being sarcastic--just unsure.

I don't know what I was expecting but let me tell you, I didn't expect that :D

It's because of a magical thing called probability.

The first winner has 21 wins over 3 years, including 2 that were being given away in the tens of thousands. I'd say their wins are probably below average over time.
There are literally thousands of giveaways made daily for the games these two won. I see nothing out of the ordinary here.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not exactly. Look at the dates between Life is Strange and Abandoned. 4 games under a month, then a normal win, then two where the chances were great to begin with (including one which had a 50% chance for me to win), then normal pattern again with about 1/month.
Comment has been collapsed.
Registered 1 year ago and another 3 year ago, pretty much normal amount of wins.
Comment has been collapsed.
How is that a lot? What is the argument exactly? I'm just missing the point, I think.
Comment has been collapsed.
I used to win 1 GA a week as well even when I was level 0-2...
In the start that was my average, now its better, but I guess that for low levels that are constantly using their points 4 a month is the average. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
I meant often; whether talking about frequency or quantity, both seem fairly low. I was missing the point of the post, but I guess you meant that they hadn't given away much.
Comment has been collapsed.
Even in short-termed GAs (1h), the amount of people that will join is absurd, unless you create like level 7.
The second profile you posted has won 2 invite GAs, one of them with 136 entries, the other with 61.
The first profile don't have a single invite GA won, or even a region restricted, and all of them have 400+ entries, with an 800 entries average, being only one (a DLC) with 144 entries (still very low odds).
There would be no point in "pumping" their accounts with wins. For real. That is only bad for them.
The funniest thing is how your profile/ratio is almost identical to theirs.
So I don't see your point. There is not even a remote sign of anything wrong with their wins.

And yeah, I didn't know how rotten system is when I started thread

Group giveaway. Usually they require a minimum level and ratio to join the group, also you need to keep a good ratio within the group. This is a way of directing your giveaways to people who are selected by requirements, so you know your gifts will go to good hands. Some groups even require that you must also have a good balance with public giveaways.
If you win something you have to activate that game later on your account or you will get suspended/banned. So that game must come from somewhere. So if this is what you're implying (I still haven't figured out yet), it would be pretty dumb if he buys a game, asks for someone to create a giveaway for him, so he would activate the game he bought himself and only make his ratio worse. In case you're implying the creator was trying to pump his account, it would be pretty dumb as well, because giveaways with less than 5 entries don't earn you contribution value.
So still... can't see your point.
I don't know what you think about SG, but have a lot of wins on an account does nothing to you. That is not a prize (having multiple wins). That only shows what leechers they are, and they will probably be blacklisted by a lot of people.
Comment has been collapsed.
Add in that it is also a bundled game, so even if they'd gotten minimum entries, it would have been worth so very little.
Comment has been collapsed.
My one-hour GAs often attract more entries than the 72-hour ones. Granted, a number of them are auto-entries, but still. The funny thing is that if you want to minimise the possible entries for a GA outside of setting it to group/whitelist/invite, the best method is doing a 48-hour one or a 72-hour one starting at early Friday.

Eee... Are you feeling alright, buddy? There's a thing called whitelist. Oh, and also private giveaways that you often need to solve puzzle or read something to get to. How is that corrupted? How is that "pumping level"? I did receive those games, you know >_> Maybe if you were nicer to people and instead of calling them out and telling how it's "not rewarding" to make GAs, you would have more wins too.

Thank you ^^'. I think the reason why I won so much is that I registered close to Christmas - New Year - so big Steam sale, many giveaways, puzzles, events and a lot of free time to take part in those. I'm surprised myself, but hey, I don't think it's something I should feel bad about.
Comment has been collapsed.
You should try.. And don't be scared of germs, they are everywhere anyway xD

So you realize you have like private milllianers club here with your thousunds of bucks giveaways to another ones of same kind not to newcomers and still call eachother generous, huh?

well if i have to deal with someone like you in my giveaways, i would stop, i mean it wtf kind of attitude is that;
i haven't seen this kind of responce from anyone..
did you lose a giveaway and started to rage;;;
there is a point in level 4-5-6 -7 giveaways
play cool mate.

Feel free to create giveaway, get levels, learn how to properly interact with people and you'll increase your chances of getting into groups to multiple times. Giving away 5 games that were 0.10$ on sale, barely being above level 1 (1.11) and then complaining how other people got somewhere - that's the equivalent of watching TV with beer in the hand, and complaining about how others, who are active and doing stuff, got further than you. Guess it's Obama's fault, eh?
Comment has been collapsed.
About a country whose leader is doing everything to turn my home into a vassal state and not even trying to hide these intentions (then again, he isn't really good at hiding any intentions…)? About a country that produced almost 90% of the winners that gave me a headache around here because they couldn't follow a simple three-step procedure? You bet I am.
Comment has been collapsed.
Some people are here to win free games and never give any away and that is 100% okay by the rules. In fact that is why there is a level system in place. How may Level 2 or 3 giveaways did these people win? Zero. They only won giveaways that allow leechers.
Comment has been collapsed.
ROFL That's nothing. There are some high level folks who won 50+ games at the beginning of the year when all those New Year's themed giveaways ended. It is all about probability and statistics. The system is working just fine. Maybe worry more about yourself than imagining some grand conspiracy. Oh...wait, it is the internet... EVERYTHING on the interwebz is conspiracy and linked somehow! LeGasp (pulls out foils and makes a hat to put on)

Awww.... someone missed his naptime. Here, have a binkie. Maybe it will help?
All my invited giveaways that I joined, are ones that I found here in the forums with very little effort. Just clicking and reading. "Invite only" just means the giveaway isn't posted on the main giveaways pages. It is insanely easy to find "invite only" giveaways in the forums (that do not require you to solve a puzzle or find a hidden link). In this time you have sat here whining and moaning about everything, you could have entered probably a dozen giveaways. But nah, so much easier to complain than take that tiny effort to click threads that say "Giveaway" in the heading.
Most the groups I am in, are public groups. The only private one that holds giveaways, is actually a decent sized group with very generous members who are constantly giving.
I worked hard for my level 5; most my giveaways have been bundled games because I have very little money and it is easier and cheaper for me to buy bundles, redeem what I want and give the rest away on here. I actually joined the site to giveaway lots of bundle keys I had no idea what to do with.
You fail to understand basic math here. And since you obviously don't like the place and think it so corrupt and full of scum, why do you still linger? You know how to leave, or do you not know how to do that either?

System isn't perfect, but it works :)
I think that some time ago it was enough to have only one entry in your GA to got CV. Now it's 5.
Maybe we should make this number higher? But on the other hand what about puzzles then? People will stop doing them or will make them easy to get enough entries to get CV.
There is no way to please everybody.
And there will be somebody who will find way to cheat system. Always.
I mean - private GA for 5 people with 5 copies of game looks REALLY shady to me
Comment has been collapsed.
Regarding your "spoiler" thing; you won't actually get CV for that. There must be at least 5 entries per copy so CV-farming won't work that way; at least that's my understanding.
Never mind, forget that I spoke.
Comment has been collapsed.
Really? Huh. I just always assumed it was that way because that's what makes the most sense. Well. If it isn't that way, I strongly suggest to change it to that.
Comment has been collapsed.
What didn't make sense was the previous system that required only 1 or 2 entries, I can't remember now because it was so long ago. Then it changed to 5, to prevent abusers.
I mean, look, whatever you put there, it will still be abusable by people in circlejerk groups, while it will also strongly discourage puzzle makers from organizing giveaways for smaller number of people. The point is to prevent abuse by e.g. one guy with 2 multiple accounts, so he can't boost his CV while providing his alt accounts with games. I'd say that 5 as a limit is quite fair.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sure, no doubt, people will always find ways to cheat the system, there's no point in arguing otherwise. I'm just really surprised that it isn't as I thought it would be because that seemed the most sensible to me.
Comment has been collapsed.
On the other hand, I can't see a real problem in changing the current system to the one you suggest, although people who want to abuse it would just make 5 standalone giveaways, and invite all people there, then issue rerolls on as-needed basis.
So I can't see a problem, but I can't see a solution either. It will be flawed as well, and it will be even worse for support to handle.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, Mullins provided us an example of a (small) problem.
Yeah.. there will always be a way to cheat, and it's true, there's not an easy solution for any of this whole CV stuff, really.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I can't access the giveaway, but I get what you're saying. Sure, for large numbers of copies that would indeed be a bad idea.
Eh.. guess I didn't think it through.
Comment has been collapsed.
I figured as much, but thanks for the screenshot haha
Comment has been collapsed.
But to be honest, those copies don't give any CV anyway. That must be like 0.0001 or something per copy..
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, if those are screenshots you made, you've got the wrong kind of friends on steam, I'll tell you that.
I'm not really surprised though.

He knew FAQ and site rules and still did what he wanted.
Lets hope that permament suspension will teach him a lesson xD
Comment has been collapsed.
Just create Steam group, invite one you want to give game to and start group GA - only one way to cheat.
What I point to - if they so generous to enjoy contests and such for only 2 participants - why would they even need service with randomizer, like steamgifts? Why not simply send it over steam gifts interface?
Maybe they pumping their accounts that way? I don't know.. so misterious thing it is.
Comment has been collapsed.
It doubles the chance for it. Unless you bought the Platinum package, which triples it. (And of course the lifetime Diamond Level VIP membership permanently quintiples it, but since that is invitational only at level 10 and expensive, I assume you are not part of that yet.)

You don't understand idea of making puzzles :)
It's open to everybody :)
To every single steamgifts user who is able to find it.
This can help:

So everybody can participate in event.
GA is award for those who were able to solve puzzle (it might be 1 person, 5, 200 or nobody).
