how many fps you get by playing minesweeper? xD but srsly, run fraps with that game, you'll get like 15fps xD

dammit kyubei, why you ruin minesweeper for me!?!?! couldn't resist saying something about the pic ^.^

Benchmarks list it at the top of the current market.

Battlefield 3 with fraps fps counter displayed, but not recording.
With recording off, fraps won't affect fps.

690 GTX is an extremely expensive version of two GTX 680s SLI glued together with a better fan... It's actually cheaper in most cases to get two GTX 680 in SLI and replace the fan with custom build yourself! However, one GTX 680 is currrently enough to play all the latest games on ultra resolution lagfree, so it's kinda overkill for people with more money than sense and like to show off benchmarking online and how rich they are, rather than actually gaming with it.

I think that's a pretty great one. I have an asus gtx 550ti and I've yet to witness framerate drops with max settings on games like Far cry 3 or Borderlands 2 (okay, except Battlefield 3 and Crysis 3..) so you should be good for a long while. Happy birthday!

ATI > NVIDIA

Name a couple of ways? I'm not saying I am against the overall arguement, quite the contrary, AMD does deliver more performance for less money, however it has always fallen behind quality wise. For example, nvidia users can make use of PhysX and have less driver issues & better support for games.

AMD has a history of producing more heat, but you can mix and match cards for Crossfire. As long as your old Radeon is Crossfire capable, your new card will get a performance boost if you run them side-by-side.
Nvidia's SLI technology requires identical GPUs, so you'll always need to replace every card in an SLI array, and can never reuse old Nvidia cards in an upgraded GPU build.
Every time one company comes out with a new tech, they're the best GPU company until the other company comes out with their next tech. They leapfrog all the time. If you're an ATI fanboy, wait six months and be disappointed. Same is true in reverse.
Fact currently is that Nvidia's best cards are currently better than AMD's best cards, but watch what happens in a few months.

Being able to mix and match AMD cards is only somewhat true, and pretty useless. They have to be the same exact GPU(chip), so you could crossfire a 6870 and 6850, 7870 with 7850, 7970 with 7950,etc etc. No point in doing so, as the stronger card has to down clock itself to match the weaker card's spec. So a 7970 + 7950 will perform nearly the same as a 7950+7950, so that's not exactly practical.

It doesn't seem to be downclocking to the extent that it matches the weaker card, but it does seem to be downclocking to an extent. There is load balancing as well, but that also shows well-below max usage on the high card while the low card is topped out. A 8 and a 9 will be faster than one 9 or two 8, but still slower than two 9.
Crossfire does seem to have its minimum FPS affected more by the lower card when both are taxed, but I would expect that tbh. As long as min fps doesn't dip too low, this shouldn't be much of a concern, and you could always OC the lower card a touch to remedy this. There could also be a concern with specific games that do some min fps balancing of their own, if you aren't given the option to disable such a thing.
Still better than SLI requiring that you have either two 8 or two 9. Still more flexible. And still not as simple as getting a single GPU that's powerful enough for the performance you want, but sometimes the cost advantage appears for dual-GPU setups.

Aren't the current high-end cards from both companies about the same? At least they should be. AMD's HD 7970 is supposed to be as fast as, if not faster than GTX 680 (its opponent?). I'm not sure if the same goes for HD 7990 and GTX 690, but benchmarks are fairly competitive between the four cards.

Im using a 9600gt NOW. Its all I can afford, and does me well. I jsut run things a little lower resolution that other people. Im almost 40 though so I have to buy my own things.

I have a 9800 GT now. I know it can be bought for 40 USD now but to upgrade to a graphics card just sightly better cost 100 USD which is a GTX 650 comparable to a 9800 GTX. Seems like every manufacturer overproduced the 9800 GT that there selling the 9800 GT just to break even. Also I only play tf2 and L4D so theres no point in upgrading unless source engine 2 comes out

Looks like a good card, I'm in a rough situation with my computer and I want to upgrade but my power supply is not large enough for most newer cards and I really wanted to avoid that if I could. I think I spotted one 2 gig card that might work, but the physical size of the card could be an issue. Anyway congrats on a card that should keep your rig in good shape for the next little while.
