As the title says, guess I trust people too easily. Should have known better than to try and trade CD keys. I've heard giving away things is supposed to make you feel better, guess we'll find out.

You should only trust ppl with high rep on Steamtrades, and beware of their impersonators, so this way you should not have any problems.

Definitely, I was dumb enough to accept his profile rep because I myself have just started to use Steamtrades and could sympathize with his low but positive rep. He also linked to a pending report of him being scammed, which makes it that much worse.

It's not even always safe. I traded with a 150 rep person and got scammed too (and yes, that's the real person, not an impersonator).

Well nothing is totally safe in this life, at least you can do the best to avoid something.

Why is it I never get people trying to scam me? I mean it's not like I treat them like I treat random people who add me like Cold Callers.... oh wait...

I have been scammed about 2 times, there is nothing you can do about it. Take this way, you have learned a valuable lesson to trust no one.
What I have learn't:
1.Never go first, even if the guy at the other end has 20-40 pages of rep and have 8-10 years on steam, it means nothing.

  1. Never use middlemen, usually, 99% of the time scammers tell you that there needs to be a middleman, its a lie, they will make a fake account which will look like the middleman account.
  2. Never click links that get sent to you from dodgy people.
  3. Dont accept random friend requests, or private profiles in particular
  4. Dont trust ppl with low steam level and cheap inventory
  5. Don't trust ppl who highball, its a lie and a scam, it too good to be true
  6. Only trust ppl with huge pages of rep, min 50. Ask them to show the showcase of how many trades they done, only if 1000+ its safe to trade, look at their steamrep and steamtrades rep if they have one. And also ppl with high level on steam, trust level 50+, I almost got scammed a few days ago by a level 40, telling me to use teamviewer so he can record my screen so i wont "scam him" What actually happened is that teamviewer allows the other guy to control your mouse, and what he did was log me out of my pc and do a trade offer for my whole invent for nothing, good that i force shutdown my pc quickly, so he couldnt accept the offer using the mouse on my account.

Ok then good luck, and dont get scammed, report them ASAP, and best of all report them on steamrep, dont forget to take screenshot of the chat to show proof which then will get them banned.

The problem is I fall under most of what you said, despite having 0 intentions to scam. The only sad thing about having been scammed is that because it involved CD keys, I don't know of any effective way to report him. Sure, I gave him negative rep on Steamtrades which he hardly uses, but I doubt that will stop him from scamming others.

I'm a bit confused as of why there are 988 guesses, 223 players, but only 213 solvers...
