I have a $600 dollar budget and I think I have two okay builds I can make within that budget (one for $600 and one for $527). I would like you guys to tell me what I should change and tell me which build is better.

Build A ($601):

•AMD FX-4100 3.6Ghz CPU

•ASUS M5A97 Motherboard

•8GB DDR3 1333Mhz Memory

•1GB GeForce GT 440 DVI/HDMI

•500GB SATA3 7200RPM HDD

•ISO400 Power Supply

•Raidmax Blackstorm Case

•Not sure on fans/sink (suggest some?)

Build B ($527):

•AMD Phenom II X4 925

•ASRock M3A770DE

•G.Skill 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3-1333

•Sapphire 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1 GB

•Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD322GJ/U 320 GB SATA 3Gb/s

•Antec EarthWatts Green EA380D 380W

•Xigmatek Asgard II B/O CPC-T45UE-U01

•Not sure on fans/sink (suggest some?)

If I left out anything important or made mistakes it's because this is my first time trying to build a PC.

I wouldn't trust this ISO400, whatever it is.. Antec is so-so.. Cases look a little too pricy for this budget (dunno the prices).. I'd pick B if I had to pick right now, but it would be best if you could give us link of the store (if it has webshop ofc..).

They don't have webshops, I just looked around on the internet and posted here what I thought was good. BTW, what should I use instead of the ISO400 and the Raidmax Blackstorm case and any tips on improving B? (willing to max out to 600 dollars >_>)

So.. Those components are from random shops? That's no way of buying PC. Find a nice cheap store, and buy everything there, even if some things cost few $ more.

Based on Build B:

CPU: Phenom II X4 945/955/965

GPU: Radeon HD 6850/6870 (or equivalents: GTX560/560Ti which usually cost a little more)

MBO: ASRock M3A770DE

RAM: Cheapest you can find 4 or 6 GB DDR3 1333MHz

PSU: XFX Core Edition 80+ 450W or CORSAIR 430W CX Series, this 2 are my favorites, but any quality brand 350-400+ will do fine..

Case: Chose for yourself, but look that it has at least one intake fan

HDD: Not much philosophy here, you know how much you need.. Just make sure its 7200rpm..

Chose something from that, these are all best buys in shops around here..
I wouldn't suggest you to go for Intel, because value/price for their platform at this point is way below AMD.
You should be fine with stock cooler and some relatively good case, no need for extra expense there..

If I may suggest, 6 or 8 GB ram, some games struggle with only 4 gigs.

I would recommend you check this out: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i5-overclock-performance-gaming,3097.html It is a guide from dec. 2011 for building a $600 budget gaming PC. It is a little out of date however I would recommend to go with an intel based processor as you will have more room to upgrade to a better processor in the future.

Well do you have any suggestions on how to make them better while staying in the budget?

Build B ($527) i got something like this, and runs pretty awesome, but in uruguay it cost $1200 :). I would recommend the A.

Radeon 6850 system requirements: «500 Watt or greater power supply recommended».

You should get a good power supply (Enermax, Corsair...). AMD processors includes a standard heatsink usually, you don't need to get another unless you want overclock. If you can afford it, a 64 GB SSD (e.g. Crucial M4) dedicated to operating and frequently used programs would be very useful.

I would agree, get something 500 watts or over.

How about this? If you don't like anything, just poke around and find something else.

B, but...
You need a stronger power supply unit.

I would go for a AMD Radeon 6870 or AMD Radeon 7770. Both are about 10 - 20 dollars more than the 6850 but are better performance wise.

Also you might not have the money for it but I suggest getting an intel i5-2500k. Even though I'm and AMD fanboy the 2500k is the better CPU.

Edit: You can possibly save money by using the hard drive on the computer you're currently on

7770 is no good. i5's alone are all too expensive, and they require motherboards which are guess what.. also too expensive..

Oh, I thought my 7770 was better, my mistake.

Also I guess it depends on which manufacturer. This MoBo is just 70 dollars.

I would go with B, but you need to change that piece of shit power supply.

monitor?

•AMD Athlon/Phenom II X4 ~2.8GHz or more

•ASRock M3A770DE -OK

•Ram: min - 4 GB. 8Gb -good (you can buy 2x2Gb now and again 2x2Gb in future if needed)

•Radeon HD 6870

•HDD min - 320Gb SATA 3Gb/s ; 500Gb -good

•PSU: min 450W

I hate to be that one guy to say this, but save up another $200 and wait for keplar series. If you can't wait then something from AMD 7000 series and a 2500k. It'd be so much better than the two builds said. I can't pick between the because I don't agree on either builds with those video cards. I suggest neither.

Going cheap isn't really worth it then down the line you'd have to upgrade far much earlier than opposed going something mid tier. High tier then oh boy. Rarely any games is pushing the limits besides that demo using 580x3 last year.

Thank all of you, I took everything each of you said into consideration and I think I have a decent PC for around 600 bucks. Some of you suggested somethings I simply couldn't add because I am on a tight budget or wouldn't work with future upgrades I plan to make, but I still thank you for the input because my current build is way better than my two shown above... lol.

I will show the build I went with after I get it... I don't want to jinx it (seems to happen a lot to me).

I would wait on getting a hard drive. The prices are still fairly high from the flooding, and should be getting back to Normal over the next Months. Also, If your that set on getting one, get a 1 TB.

Its odd, prices shot up because of the flooding, understandable, then dropped some after 6months, and then went back up. Why :.

Id also suggest looking at external drives as they can sometimes be found for cheaper then an internal drive and can be removed from the case with little difficulty. My 1TB WD drive I use to house all my steam games was pulled from an external.

External hard drive usually are designed to save power and contains data only, not for speed. He needs at least a 7200 RPM hard drive for operating system and programs.

If you want cheap/lower endish go with an i3-2100 and 1155 socket H61 motherboard.

Cheap 8GB ram is around $30-35
Do not get a 5400rpm or Green/Eco hard drive. Go with WD Blue/Black (black is faster) or Spinpoint F3 or similar.
Go with the 6850, although I highly recommend taking the 6870 instead
450w-550w PSU rated 80+ Bronze or better (Antec EarthWatts has a 520w I think that will be perfect)
You won't need a heatsink

A decent $60 case is a HAF 912.

I don't get the builds. Why so much difference?

I'd say:

i3 CPU and suitable MB
8GB RAM
Radeon 6850
500GB disk minimum (games take a lot of disk space)
