As mentioned above ,

Steam will be enforcing that anyone listing a trade will need to have Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled on their account for atleast 7 days and must not have trade confirmation turned off. Otherwise, to protect against unauthorized trades, items will be held by Steam for up to 3 days before delivery.

Any alternative for someone who doesn't have a smartphone like me?

Tried WinAuth. Currently it doesn't have trade mobile confirmation.

Will you now activate your Steam Mobile Authenticator?

View Results
Yes.
No.

I don't have a smartphone so does that mean when that escrow comes fully in effect I can't buy cards, boosters, backgrounds and emoticons from the Steam Market or sell them on the Steam Market?

When I log into Steam using a brower I always use my email client to receive the Steamguard code.

Also will there be troubles for gifting Steamgifts to giveaway winners?

haters hating on the mobile authenticator...
steam set the trade limit because thousands of idiots get scammed ( mostly of csgo knifes ) and just go cry over it,
ive been using it for while on my ipad, 0 problems and its faster to login using it instead of email,
it even lets u buy games from store without even having to relogin,
complaining that your computer restarts and u cant login cuz u forgot your phone etc, if u litterly use the savepassoword option then u dont even need your phone unless u well buy/sell items,
phone stolen? littely use the recovery code instead of: WAAA WAAA, MY STEAM STOLEN! NO GAMES! STEAM SUCKS.......
i admit that steam support is bad but even if u made 1 million recovery code and u still have 1 of them u can litterly get your account back even if the code expired xD. cuz #YourIP

is that so hard to process?
purchase using the app not the web or steam in your computer.
purchasing from the app wont ask for the code...

So the solution is to use an awkward and miniscule touch-screen to purchase from a huge store every time you want someone, instead of using the more comfortable and larger monitors you've been using with faster and more convenient input devices?
Essentially, the solution is putting yourself in a worse situation and stepping backwards?

I use multiple devices with steam (phone, gaming pc, laptop, tablet and work pc). Every single time I log into steam I need to have my phone at hand.
I'm a trader and a better so I cant do without this authenticator.... but it sucks because I'm not used to carry around my phone all the time.

"items will be held by Steam for up to 3 days before delivery"

So it's fine. If you don't use it, you just have to wait 3 days. That's all.

Also can't you buy a $20 prepaid shitty smartphone at a drugstore or something and just use it on wifi to get the app?

Just install BlueStacks App Player and keep the 20 bucks for something else.

I just dumped a bunch of coupons off on one of the Trashbots and saw the warning message about escrow. Since there's nothing being asked for in return will this escrow thing also apply when using the Trade window to gift something or to dump off those coupons to the Trashbots? A gift that I won from here about a year ago was delivered through a Trade window. I can see this being a potential issue for a lot of people. Not everyone has a damn smartphone either.

Yes, since you will be losing the items, not the bot. But if you request something from the bot, then the bot is supposed to enter the authentication code.

Well seems to me that the next Winter Sale is going to "produce" a LOT of GEMS.
Anyone have tried the Desktop App?

As my mother in law say (se dice asi suegra en ingles?), every person is a diferent world, and the economic reality in every one of those world is diferent, and in some case buying a new smartphone is not so simple as walk into a shop an take one.

Well, I really don't care much for any of steam's "features" other then trading cards. As I'm already forced to use different types of authentication every other time I try to log in, having to install an app will be the last straw -- I'll only move to GOG or something.

It's cool to see people putting so much effort into working up an alternate to the mobile app.
Now if only the average steam user would show a similar degree of attentiveness in their trades, steam wouldn't feel compelled to try wrapping us in a million layers of security hurdles. \:3/

Ah well.

Hello there!

I have just traded with two people who both had their Mobile Auth enabled for a week or more as have I. Still, the items have been placed on hold. Did anybody experience the same thing?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You need to have trade confirmations enabled in addition to that. In your privacy settings :-/

Hm, I have that enabled, actually. Will ask my trading partners about it, thanks for your answer.

There still one thing i dint found an Answer yet.
lets say you have Mobile auth. over 7 days active. your trade partner does not ant the trade goes to hold back. What happens if u who have the auth more then 7 Days cancel the Trade then. Do you still get punished by getting locked?

Did anyone try that out and knows anything about it?
Please no guessing only answer if you know it for sure.
