Can I get a tl;dr version of this? :P
I did actually read it all, though. Interesting results you got there!

Humans are terrible, horrible creatures. We should get rid of them all. Don't you agree?

I think part of the reason for less urls given for same level giveaways is some games appeal more and are better known than others. More people have heard of Planetary Annihilation: TITANS than Steredenn, and familiar names appeal more than unknown names.

The 2nd one still is awesome. I tend to agree with your statement in the originating post that most people don't read pas the first part (or just skim for a little blue link and don't read at all).

Me too! I'm one of the few, it seems. Maybe if I'd played the original in 1999, I'd feel different. But the first one just looked so chunky on a 27" screen, that it was hard to get past. But great story, though. :)

I think the random variations of levels and the different type of games make for an unreliable test tbh, no offense. Though I do agree there are a lot of people who don't read and just enter links. The more time I spend on this site, the more I realize there are a lot of people who will lie and cheat or do whatever just to get to GA's, it's really sad imo. Thank you for the Indiana Jones GA, it's a cool game if you like old school adventure games. It's too bad the world is based on greed

You are quick. Less than a minute after the second comment is posted and BAM!

Thats true, wonder how many entries would drop off during the test????

There are certainly a lot of lurkers that just open the threads and just look for anything blue. You can assume as much just by looking at the entrants. A good portion of them are completely unfamiliar to even the most regulars of the discussion boards. It's a safe bet to assume a portion of those unfamiliar faces are just looking for "clickies".
i'll also join my voice to those above and say that to procure the most reliable results the same game should be used with the same parameters. But it's an interesting idea.
Edit: ignore the previous thingie here, I'm an idiot and can't do simple calculations! \o/

I've been playing this series with my friends for over 12 years now. We started with the demo of the first game and during all this time we have somehow managed to keep our skill levels so close to each other that it's just tons of fun to compete with each other.

I recently played Trackmania Turbo and it was pretty good. You should definitely try it if you haven't already.

Ow man you have no idea how long I've searched someone who plays TM in this forum. I have a pretty similar story: I've played this for years with a friend of mine (I've managed to get almost all green in nations but still fighting to get them in united), but the little difference is that my friend is a freakin pro (compared to me) and beats me 90% of the time ><

Here's a giveaway if you are not interested in reading.
Now I suppose it's common knowledge that people do not read giveaway descriptions. But what about threads? Surely the forum goers read the threads we create, right? If you feel like finding out, then read on!
Few weeks ago I created three threads that all had something in common, besides all of them having the word test in the topic. Every one of them had giveaways that I put in the comments in addition of having giveaways in the OP. The results I got from the first and third thread in particular were interesting.
The first thread only had one giveaway in the OP for This War of Mine (level 3, 380 url given in SGTools). The custom filter I made for that kept the url number at around that level, but I did use the same filter on every giveaway on all three threads so we can compare the numbers.
I wrote in the OP that "I'll probably add another giveaway", which I did in a comment 16 minutes later. I also edited the OP that people should scroll down a bit for that second giveaway. The giveaway itself was Renowned Explorers (level 4, 159 url). Okay, so a bit higher level and less than half wanted the link compared to the first giveaway.
On the comment where that second giveaway was, I wrote that maybe there will be a third one, which was added three hours and 12 minutes after the OP. The OP was again edited that there is a third giveaway if you scroll down a bit more. The third was The Elder Scrolls Online (level 0, 162 url). Well clearly the level didn't have much impact on the number of url given. It was about the same number of people who noticed both additional giveaways
For the third thread I decided to keep it really simple. No edits were done in the OP or in the comments, I just let everyone know exactly how it's going to happen right from the start. I had four giveaways in the OP and at the end I wrote that I will add one more giveaway later in a comment on this thread. Then luckily I made a mistake.
I meant to have five giveaways in the OP but I forgot one. I added it four minutes after the OP, in the second comment of the thread. I also said in the comment that I forgot to add this and this does not count as that extra giveaway which will be coming later. The proper extra giveaway was in a comment created 45 minutes after the OP.
Now for the stats from the third thread. The four giveaways in the OP were: Planetary Annihilation: TITANS (level 0, 194 url), WASTED (level 3, 123 url), Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (level 3, 126 url) and Cibele (level 6, 34 url). The forgotten giveaway on the second comment was Steredenn (level 0, 58 url) and the extra giveaway was CLANNAD (level 5, 63 url).
Comparing those two level 0 giveaways does show an interesting difference. Even if people just weren't that interested in Steredenn compared to Planetary Annihilation, that's quite a drop in the url numbers considering that the Steredenn giveaway link was almost immediately below the OP. I'd say it's pretty clear that there are quite a lot of people here who won't or can't read the threads and just check the OP for giveaways before moving on.
Feel free to give your opinion regarding that conclusion. Anyways, just for reading this far, I'd like to reward you with ten more giveaways. I will keep posting comments on this thread with one giveaway in each. I will wait until there's at least two comments from you folks after each giveaway before adding a new one. Two comments is enough and any additional comments added before I have time to post the giveaway will not count towards the next one, so no need to spam right away. The custom rule from the giveaway up there will be on all of them.
Edit: Here's the link for the results of this thread.
