First of all, that's a lie. You can open the store right now and see several AAA games for 60-75% off.

Second, Valve doesn't set the sales, the developers do.

Uh, Steam has pretty much every significant "non-indie" game that gets released, except for those from Blizzard and EA. What other AAA games do you want them to have?

Nope. I think he's trying to say that non indie games are disappearing but that's way too wrong and bullshit to be what he's saying ... I hope he's not saying that :>

Maybe he meant that indie games becoming more and more, and now the amount of indie higher than AAA titles? Yes, it's "crowded", but is it bad?

Well, by "crappy AAA", you have to define what exactly you mean. Crappy in story? Crappy in gameplay? Crappy in optimization? CoD is still a good AAA title, just repetitive.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I'm talking about games like current CoD and BF (not whole series in general, just latest), which are crappy AAA games - they have more bugs then players.

Really, both of them should be called "Early Access", not "Released"...

Valve as taken a huge step with stemOS, and they know that one of their future targets will be people with "indie machines". Basicly they are/will be a steam box based on a very low cost pc just to run most indie games from steam, other linux indies and emulators.

So don't be surprised if some day you see a new and much improved section of indie games on steam. Don't forget that steamOS will be the easyest way to get your indie game into both the console and the pc worlds throught greelight.

Write my words ;)

EDIT: This is a DEV.Board like the Arduino, but much more powerfull. It asa A20 Cortex-A7 dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and dual-core Mali 400 GPU, 1GB DDR3 RAM memory, 4GB NAND FLASH memory, Android already loaded on the NAND. You can also run Debian. One of its current uses is as a Tablet. So, if it runs android games and debian ones, how long do you think it will be until someone gets steamos and some games running on boards like this?

By now you must have already realized that i am much more into indies than aaa games and that i love the idea of a "indie machine" that is a tablet, linux pc, and steam box connect to a tv. :D

Running Debian does imply being capable of running SteamOS. And in fact you can install Debian on that dev board.

But this doesn't mean it will run Steam games, at least not outside the box... Most PC games are compiled for x86 or x86_64 (the 32-bit or 64-bit Intel / AMD "PC" architecture). In comparison, ARM is a quite different architecture, with a totally different instruction set.

Running the same binary code on multiple platforms isn't always feasible; unless the game is based on an intermediate, higher level language or virtual machine (such as Java, or non-native C#), it would require at least recompiling, or even porting, the game to the new platform.

I do agree developers who already ported their games to Linux are more open to that possibility, however.

Agreed. Greenlight is a big part of that. It's always about the content. Always.

If we do the math, we can see that 3 of the 12 games in the daily deal are indie games. That is way more than half so you're right!

EDIT: Oops, I meant 2 of the 9 games are indie games...that's even more than over half!!!!

Does it need to be AAA shop? They already have their own exclusives. Let's talk about Battlefield 4 on Origin, or Splinter Cell on Uplay.

Or Heartstone on Blizzard's Battle net?

That's the spirit. Indie games beats most AAA games in innovation.

Indie games are far more inspired I think. AAA games have a fixed schedule and content is forced upon the developers.

Indie games are a creative outlet -- their ideas not constrained by time & internal in-fighting like major devs. A dream to win over the hearts of people.

Well it's not ending per say. More like slowing down. Before steam greenlight, we got fully finished products which were mostly from AAA Publishers. Now we have more unfinished games (early access) getting released than complete ones. But you have to take into consideration that the big AAA games are usually published at certain times of the year (March, October/November). So you will see them at those times, can't say they will beat the indie games by number but it's not ending as you put it.

Today is even worse! I mean 3 of the 9 games are considered "indie" games. That's way more games than AAAAAA titles. And to make matters worse, they are extremely despised by the critics and community. I mean Dust couldn't even get over an 85 and Two Brothers has a terrible 90 and hardly any game of the year awards. I hope Steam realizes their error and corrects it because I would much rather see games like SimCity 4 for the 8th time and Deadpool on sale. Listen to OP, he is on to something!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And by the way, shame on Steam for forcing developers to make "indie" games and for forcing people to buy them. I liked Steam better when they forced developers to make AAAAAA titles and forced people to buy those. It would be great if we had a free market that allowed users to buy what they wanted. Then we could get rid of those "indie" games once and for all.
