I had many occasions in which I was very low on points, to the point where I couldn't enter giveaways that I wanted. I had 300 points maybe once or twice only.

Now I'm pretty much constantly on 300 points, at least every new day after I check the site.

I guess it means there are much more gifts! or maybe I've become way too picky and I don't enter enough giveaways? :P

i have the "way too picky problem". i have most games that are on this site now, so i often can't enter any giveaways. and those i can, maybe not so interested in

i seem to be between 100 and 300 points all the time now, with most giveaways being games i own or have no interest in. makes it easy to enter the ones i do want when they come up though!

I want to enter giveaways for free games, but I've already bought most of them. :D

so true! but there's that fine line where you leach. leach. leach. suddenly have all the games. then all you can do is give back. which i'm proud to say, am doing so now :)

Same here.

Most of the games I really want aren't even available for preorder

what the bear says...
this is not about the contributor giveaways, is about the bundles, and people making give-aways for individual games of this bundles (what is against the rules)...

I still have to see people that contribute to this site (not only with games, forums like you) ranting...

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm personally not all that fond of the contributor giveaways. Too many of them (IMO) so far are for relatively high contributor levels. I understand why, but seeing as I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on games for strangers, I'm less than thrilled.

ah...? but why is this a rant?

I get to 300 points frequently, simply because I'm unable to enter a lot of the giveaways now. I've bought nearly every single bundle that's come out (9 Indie Royale, the last 4 Indie Gala, Groupees, the first Indie FaceKick, most HiBs). Which means that when people put up giveaways for these games, whether they're bundle keys or legit (possibly sale) copies, I can't enter. More mainstream games that I'd play, like Batman and LEGO, are few and far between.

I think in my case, I'm just not interested in most games...

Same as me, I don't want games just for hoarding, I run 99.99% of the time with 300p because of that. Don't like most of the indies, and it's almost impossible for someone to make a giveaway for a game I want. But I can't complain you know, free games are free games :D

Most of the giveaways don't make the contribution amount too steep. For example, I just had 250 points, entered about 12 giveaways of which more than half were contributor only, with my low contribution amount of $12.27

Although it does depend on what kind of games you want & which ones you already have.

No reason to fret about maxing out on points. You shouldn't be entering ALL the giveaways anyway, just the few that you're actually interested in.

And like other said this is because of all the bundles being given away.

I like them, I dont mind being left out of some giveaways honestly, many of them would probably be in private groups or not made in the first place I assume. There are still plenty of open to everyone giveaways.

little bit of both I'd say - before they started the contributor giveaways I was already at 300 most of the time and not entering near as many as I used to, but now there are definitely a lot more giveaways. I was casually browsing through the list a few days ago and where there's been around 7 to 12 pages of giveaways there was over 30. So the contributor option has definitely pushed a lot of people's generous button.

As others noted, it's probably a combination of things. More giveaways being created would lead to faster point accumulation. If you're selective about which giveaways you enter, you'll end up holding on to more points when there are fewer giveaways you're interested in. And as you get more games in your Steam account, there are fewer games for you to try to get here, which could lead to you holding on to more points. I'm not sure how much the contributor giveaways have affected things; it does limit who can enter, but so do group and private giveaways. I haven't had 300 points too often or very long, but I have had over 100 points, sometimes 200 points, most of the time lately. I suspect it's due to all of the things above.
