I gift games which i have in my steam inventory or spare keys. You could also look on the Steamgifts Wishlist.

Usually I wait till there is a sale going on that way I can pick up more stuff then without a sale. I will usually pick up extra copies of stuff I have wanted and extra copies of stuff that some of my friends have wanted and then give out those extra copies here.

This is basically what I had in mind. I don't see alot of RTS and alot of old games. For example, the RTS which I was talking about is Blitzkrieg (1 & 2), I had an amazing time playing it, and it's really a great game still to this day. I would love to gift that game since I personally think it's a great game, but I also think that there's a greater chance that someone'll win it and probably never play it cause it's old, rather than if I gave away Skyrim or something like that.
I'm not judging people's taste in games, I'm just trying to explain my dilemma here :)

I doubt that, though I have no idea how popular those games are in the first place. Heck, the "never play" thing might apply with skyrim.

I don't remember how popular they were back when they were released (the sequel will be 10 years old next year). But I would compare them with Comany of Heroes games, only without the bases, and with more epic battles, more units and overall more tactics involved. Like I replied to your comment below, I play the maximum of games I buy, so I have a problem with givin something away if people wouldn't like it as I do, I'd want someone to be really happy with the game I give. (Blitzkrieg is just an example, just be clear)

Whatever game you give, there's always the risk of someone entering for the +1 count and never playing it. And that goes for every single game, not just the older ones. (This is when they're not trying to trade their copy away to someone else, even though that's against site rules.)
Personally, I refrain from entering for anything I don't think I'd play, but some people will enter for just bout anything in the hope of winning "something". They just want to win, and don't really care what they get. As annoying as it is to give away a game you personally care about and have the winner not play it, you can't spend too much time dwelling on it or you'd never give anything. I'd rather think that I made a bunch of people aware of the existence of a game I like whether the one person who receives it does play it or not. (I've added a few games to my wishlist after seeing giveaways for them.)

well as Zomby2D has stated, all that is real. Even I have some wins I haven't played yet ;_; but they are all games I want to play but I have been getting a backlog of AAA titles and with univ. it's kinda hard. Though want to play almost all games, except FPSs.
For your dilemma though, there are a lot of things you could do to check how much someone wants to play the game. like say, when there was a fortix event someone made it a rule that you had to have the achievement that signified you beating fortix 1 way back before like 2013 to enter for a fortix 2 giveaway. If there is someway you can range the want for the game it's pretty doable as long as support accepts it. But if you are going to do it achievement-thing make sure not to say anything beforehand, cus then people will just pull out their SAMs

you can start with bundle spares as for once you hit the 30 dollar limit? Games that are super cheap, though I'm thinking about doing the idea of a special GA.

30 dollar limit?
I never actually bought bundles, I don't like stacking up on games. I'm from a generation back when we used to get something and use it 100%, I have like 5-6 games in my Steam account, 8 in my Origin, 2 in Battle.net and a couple of hard copies I bought before the digital download era begun. And I still feel it's alot of games, since I don't get to play all of them enough.

Bundle games are on a special list because of how cheap they are. What happens is that you get credit for the first 30 dollars worth of bundle games you giveaway and after that they are worth 0, unless you giveaway non-bundled games. Basically to get the full contributor value (CV) for each bundle game you have to give 5 times its value in non-bundled games. So if you give a bundle game that is worth 20 dollars on steam us site you have to give 100 dollars worth of non-bundled games.
Heres what it will look like...
you giveaway 4 bundle games. each of them worth 10 dollars. You will now how 30CV. If you giveaway 5 non-bundled games each worth 10 dollars, your total CV will be 90.
The more CV you have the higher amount of special giveaways you yourself can enter.
Its a little complicated but its the best system they have at the moment (though version 2 of this site is being worked on right now and new things are being tested).
BTW you can tell bundle games from non-bundled one in the list because all the bundled ones have a * beside their name.

Giving away 1 copy of bad rats = giving away 57 copies of bad rats, it seems

I give different games for different reasons.
Here are a few of them:

Most of them I redeem from Tremorgames.
Rarely, I bought games on the Steam store while they were on sale.

Note: I have no idea if it's region locked, just shooting a suggestion.

You can giveaway whenever you want.Just make sure it's not a free, exploited, region locked game.

Check the list of the games I've given away ;) That should tell :p
Actually to be honest I do gift a lot of games but never really via SteamGifts that much. Usually I only giveaway a game here when I cannot find someone on my friends list who say they want to play the game I've got (or typically they already got the game I want to gift them). Otherwise my CV would probably be above +$2000 possibly even +$3000 lol.

Most of my giveaways are for groups these days and the different groups I'm in have different types of games that seem to appeal to them. I try to judge that sort of thing.
Mostly I'll buy keys and gifts on sale, grabbing games I think look like a bargain, and then when it's time to make giveaways I'll pick something out of what I've bought previously. I tend to hoard keys and gifts a little and often have a selection to pick from when it's time to decide exactly what to give and to which group.

I'm new to this site, and I mostly registered to try and win some games I wanted to play but were never on top of my list.
However, I want to contribute once I can afford to give away some gifts in a few weeks, so I was wondering how people here choose what they'll give away?
Do you gift games you like to play yourself?
Do you gift cheaper games so you can give away more than one gift?
Do you browse the wishlists to see what's in demand?
I remembered one of the best RTS games I played as a kid yesterday, and I think that'll be one of the first games I'll gift here, but I don't see many RTS games being gifted. So any hints on how to make people happy would be great!
P.S. Try not to include specific game titles, but rather describe the process of chosing the game to gift.
