A project in business and science is typically defined as a collaborative enterprise, frequently involving research or design, that is carefully planned to achieve a particular aim. Projects can be further defined as temporary rather than permanent social systems that are constituted by teams within or across organizations to accomplish particular tasks under time constraints.

A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. The temporary
nature of projects indicates a defi nite beginning and end. The end is reached when the project’s objectives
have been achieved or when the project is terminated because its objectives will not or cannot be met, or when
the need for the project no longer exists. Temporary does not necessarily mean short in duration. Temporary
does not generally apply to the product, service, or result created by the project; most projects are undertaken
to create a lasting outcome. For example, a project to build a national monument will create a result expected
to last centuries. Projects can also have social, economic, and environmental impacts that far outlast the
projects themselves.

Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources to achieve specific goals.
The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all of the project goals and objectives while honoring the preconceived constraints.

A project is a temporary endeavor with a defined beginning and end (usually time-constrained, and often constrained by funding or deliverables),undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value. The temporary nature of projects stands in contrast with business as usual (or operations), which are repetitive, permanent, or semi-permanent functional activities to produce products or services. In practice, the management of these two systems is often quite different, and as such requires the development of distinct technical skills and management strategies.

A project has a set of objectives.
A project has an organisation structure.
A project has resources — used to create the deliverables or products.
These products may be tangible or intangible.
The end-product all deliverables, must have the potential, or capability to realize business benefits.
Each project is unique in some way.
