Dota 2 has alot of TD created on the workshop. Never tried them though but the ratings were pretty high.

Defend your life is the closest thing I found, I think. It was also free somewhere at some point, so you might be able to find it for cheap.

Check out the games at Kongregate. Both Kingdom Rush games are there and a couple of vaguely similar ones; Incursion 1 & 2, Demons vs. Fairyland. I also liked the two (or three? can't remember) Cursed Treasure games and Defender's Quest (has been brought to Steam a while ago), though they are different from Kingdom rush.

Dungeon Defenders looks more like Orcs Must Die etc, but is fun.

Kingdom Rush is my favorite game, but right now I am playing Evil Defenders and it's just as good, and maybe even better! If you love Kingdom Rush you'll love Evil Defenders!

Amazing indie gem in this genre, with rpg elements too to spice it up. Great interface, great way to introduce people to the genre. Very tactical, pause is often needed to rethink strategies.
Also, right length (time needed to finish it at 100%), without having to grind absurd number of 150+ plus useless hours like in other badly designed tower defense games.
For a more complex pick, I'd definitely go with gemcraft, which is already mentioned in the thread.

I haven't played it before. If a game has mixed reviews, I usually read some reviews on Steam to find out the issues people have with the game. What someone may find a nuisance might not be a problem for you and vice versa. And if it is in the early stages, in theory, it can only get better.
If it seems decent enough, you could always enter the giveaway.

The enhanced Steam version of Kingdom Rush Frontiers is now available. If it does well enough, the developer, Ironhide Games, said that they would consider doing a Steam version of Kingdom Rush Origins in the future as well.

I noticed, that soon Kingdom Rush Frontiers will come soon to steam, but i wonder. It is there even more TD games like Kingdom Rush? For all i found maybe looks familiar Magic Quest.
