Google Play isnt competing with Facebook and its been there for a while

it's just Android's Market. it lets you buy/rent movies, music, books (ereader), games

also lets you upload your own music and stream it anywhere.

If they make it people will use it, and if they don't it will just fall back onto Google's scrap heap, along with countless other failed products.

Actually havent heard of it until now.

I suspect it is casual gaming though; an industry that isnt necessarily out to compete.

Besides, Google seems to be able to do whatever the fuck it wants these days.

a week or two ago, they renamed the Android Market, "Google Play". No real changes, it's a store for music / books / videos / apps and whatever else google decides to sell.

It's just Google Music consolidated with the Android Market. Think of it like Google's iTunes, but targeted toward Android.

I still haven't got Google play, actually. My phone is still using the Market, which I'm completely fine with, seeing as they're basically the same thing

They just changed a name.... I really don't know why that was a smart idea but I really preffered Android Market than this...
