Would you use a key trading website where you get a random key you don't own?
Also you would need a way to confirm if the keys were really used or invalid because scammers will probably claim they weren't if they can profit from this.
The most safe trade system I found so far was used by IG, but only if you trade for IG stuff because the keys are hidden by default and their trade system tell you which traders still have the keys hidden (100% Guaranteed)

haven't given it too much though yet, other than your account would be linked to your steam account and where a key is invalid it would result in a ban if you could not replace the key within a certain time frame.
I also thought that before accepting the key you could view the users feedback (similar to what they have here for giveaways)
It obviously needs a lot more thought, I just wanted to see if it was worth pursuing. Any ideas are well appreciated though!

i'm just saying that there's no way to check if a key is valid or not until you try to redeem them. it could be for another game, invalid, used, region-locked. there's no way to know what you are getting from it.
and you also have no proof from the user who is receiving it. they can activate it on another account and claim it was already used.
it's pretty difficult/impossible to create an automated system to trade keys...

trolls will just claim that keys are invalid all the time, and i then have to deliver additional keys. ^^

Thanks for the feedback, I do agree with what you've said. The whole Idea came about just thinking more about people who just want to get games they don't own for there duplicates. The value thing was more to improve the range of games available. But before I develop anything my main focus would be to work out ways to prevent scammers from exploiting the site.
Unfortunately, from what I've seen they always find a way...

I think barter has huge potential, but the single guy behind it probably needs some help, as from what i've heard he's doing this on his own, out of his free time.
From what you've said, we all have some games we can hardly get rid off, and which we would trade for basically ANYTHING we don't have. (you could still filter that "anything" into anything with cards if the game you're offering has them, or not to be offered games that have been given away for free for example)
I'm not sure if either him or you would like to work as coop but i think barter has a solid great base needing a lot of improvement and new features.
Either way if you have a lot of time or prefer to start from the beginning, you'll end up building some mechanics from what barter's did, as the site does some things so well.
PD: Another idea, as a really active user on barter, would be to create different profiles for your differnt categories of games so you don't lowball or don't get lowballed for example.

Thanks for the reply, I've just started looking at barter and I like the idea of it. The UI and design makes navigating and understanding the site for new users fairly difficult. I never realized it was just one guy that put it together. Maybe I will try and get in touch to see if we can work together to improve it.
Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't be interested in random games.
The most satisfying solution I found for my unneeded keys from bundles is to create giveaways. The problem is that games that were given for free at any point in time (e.g. Deponia, Euro Truck Simulator 2) are ungiftable on this site. I created this thread to help find them deserving users, but a dedicated site (based on the same concept of requiring users who have the game on their wishlist for a while) would be much better.
I think a site that gets users games they actually want would be more useful than one that shuffles random keys between them.

Hey everyone.
Just setting up a quick poll to see if this is something worthwhile.
Some background...
Like most people who come to this site I'm a gamer who buys a ton of bundles and have became a little, shall we say obsessed with increasing that 'games owned' number well past the number of games I can ever hope to play in a life time...
One you hit a certain number, buying bundled games always results in duplicate keys, and most people (like me) currently come here to trade these keys for games they don't have, but want some kind of profit, be it a higher value game or keys to ultimate trade for an even higher value game. Unless you don't have a job / life away from your computer this can be a lot of work and in my opinion is not worth the hassle.
I am a developer and I've been thinking about making a website where a user can log on via steam, submit a key for any game that they have available. The site will then check this against another user who is trading a key and provided the keys to be traded do not exist in the other users library, the keys will be sent to one another and the transaction is complete. you both get a game you don't own, but you don't know what that key is until you redeem it.
Obviously on the surface this would only really apply to a select through users like those who simply "[W] games I don't own". I was initially thinking it would be 100% random, but to prevent spamming I am thinking that the value of the key you put in will give you a similar value game out i.e. currently 6.99 on steam gives you a key back that is currently 6.99 on steam
So before I spend 2 months worth of free time putting together a zero profit website for people like me that cant be bothered with the hassle of trading (kind of defeats the purpose of not wasting time trading!)
What are your thoughts? Would you use it? Would your received key being the same value as your key mean you could be happy with a random swap if you are used to trading for profit?
