Of course, who hasn't :D. Not really in a mood for that, besides that, my laptop is screwed up, and I am on old desktop computer, cant play newer games :D.

+1
The RPG aspect isn't really RP, but the characters definitely have character (they'll even occasionally interact with each other on their own), and the stats they gain are yours to do with as you wish when they level up.
The strategy part of it will have you constantly quicksaving/quickloading -- it's a tough, but awesome game.

Well it got more RPG aspects than X-Com, which the OP mentioned. Also I don't think there are any RTS/RPG hybrids with as much RPG as the "real" RPGs. You'd have to play some of the Neverwinter Nights RTS modules for that.
Edit: Also you get to create an alter ego, then hire a bunch more mercenaries.

That spiked my interest, do you get to create your own character and obtain loot in there? Like, are stats of loot totally random just as loot is? It is unclear to me from videos I watched.

Yeah in the Singleplayer, the Mp is only pre setted army based but you can upgrade them a bit, wait for Dawn of War 3, the gamemakers said it'll have big battles with armies that you can design and create like you want them, aka really choose your own equip in the pre game mp screen and where the weapons are attached and looks etc.

Main is the Single-player :). I am very much into loot, so the loot indeed is very random, like in any other rpgs, right? If that is really the case, then that is great, I might try DoW :)

No, It's not that random, enemies drop loot from time to time but it's preset items. Not like in Diablo or Borderlands where they generate the stuff.

Oh,that's a pity then :/. I thought it would be random. Oh well, I think I am gonna pass :D

Warlords Battlecry II/3 Though it's not similar to XCom. It is an RTS/RPG hybrid though.
However, isn't X Com a TBS?

I suppose the old 'Lord of the rings' game would count. The units had levels, and would carry over. It seriously wrecked the endgame balance, though. I'd just steamroll over the map with the veteran squads before the enemy knew what hit them XD

The UFO series. It's based on X-Com. At the moment, only UFO: Afterlight, the third and final game of the series, is on Steam. But you don't need to have played the previous games to understand it.
I've only played Afterlight and it's great. It was in a bundle recently, so you can probably find it cheap in Steamtrades. If you decide to play the previous games, make sure to check how far they were patched, as they (the second game especially) were released in a pretty horrid state. The same goes for Afterlight, by the way, but in its current patched state it has only very minor technical issues, mostly related to alt+tabbing.

Anyone else remembers Sacrifice? which reminds me that it's still in my pile of shame.

Uhmmm. Any game which consist RTS and RPG elements its Savage. I like how it works, u have two different teames. In each team one guy is building base, towers, etc. Other are grabbing minerals or fight. Not similiar to X-Com but worth shoot.

I would hardly call XCom RPG like, and it's really not a RTS.
Warlords Battlecry (not on steam that I know of) is a great series with a little bit of RPG elements (more than Warcraft 3). In the 3rd game of the series there are something like 16 races and 16 classes.

Hi guys, I have been thinking about playing some RTS/RPG Hybrids, like X-com. What I loved about Xcom was that you can invent new stuff and build new facilities, while gearing up your soldiers and then sending them on mission.
Is there any similiar game like X-com? Thanks :D
