It looks like we're getting close to head transplants become possible.
I know it's a shitty source, but it's worth taking a look at it:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2969375/Could-doctors-REALLY-transplant-head-body-2-years-time-Italian-surgeon-confident-perform-7-5milllion-operation-help-paralysed-patients-like-Christopher-Reeve.html

I can imagine the suffering of paralysed pepole and it would be great if we could help them. But are head transplants moral and fine with you?

This is why I don't work out as much as I should. It's simply protection from the body snatchers.

... yup. That's the story and I'm sticking to it.

I can transplant a head too! I just can't guarantee either patient will be alive at the end, though.

That is why they sign waivers

Haha no one can if we don't try and have only vague notion of it. BTW decades ago people tried to transplant a monkey's head and it kind of worked. The monkey was alive for a couple of days but couldn't move because they didn't manage to properly join spinal cords. At least that's what I've read.

I'm waiting for them to develop the brain jars. Just put my brain in a capsule and put it into a robot body. I'm all set.

Yeah, body transplantation would be just a half-measure. We need sturdy metal frames and more than four appendages to really get shit done.

you mean a body. transplanting a body to a head makes sense. not the other way around.

It's just a point of view. Everyone knows what's meant.

Comment has been collapsed.

it's not about different point of views. the person that'll (hopefully) keep living is the one with the head. you never hear a heart getting a body transplant, do you? it's a heart transplant to a body. just like it, this is a body transplant to a head.

I totally understand your point of view, but in this case (moving a head from body x to y) it's fine. It also sounds more dramatic :D

Im sorry but, Doctor Italian didn't spent two weeks on fake medical school for you to question his methods, now did he?.

i'm not questioning his/her methods. i'm pretty sure he/she will most probably kill the patient anyway. it's just weird to think a body getting a new head rather than a head getting a new body. anyway, rip in pieces.

I agree with what you say. The body isn't getting a head, the head is getting a body. This is a body transplant, not a head transplant. The patient who is getting the operation is the head.

"He would then glue the patient's head onto the donor's body"

Of Course! why didn't i think about that?
magic glue was the answer, all along

Edit: i cant believe ive been using this shit for almost 2 years now

I imagine there's a lot of fiddly about what body to use for the head to have both not reject the other. Blood matching, marrow acceptance, and spinal connections... Maybe same gender, likely similar general height and build...

I'm fine with that, but what i really want is body augmentations like in Deus Ex HR !

So you did ask for this?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Fow what ? Head transplantation ? Not really :D. It's one thing to augment yourself by having chips in your head, swapping organs and body parts. And another to just put your head on another body :D. I don't think they are talking about transplanting a head to robotic body.

I was referencing the "I didn't ask for this" quote from Adam Jensen, figured you'd understand since its from DE:HR:)

Total bullshit. If he can transplant a paralyzed person's head, more specifically one with a spinal cord injury, onto a "healthy" body, you're just going to be severing the spinal cord farther up when you cut the head off. So either you're just going to have a new body and be more paralyzed due to the spinal cord being severed higher up or he's figured out a way to re-grow a spinal cord. If he has discovered how to re-grow a spinal cord, why do you need a body transplant?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Head transplants are already possible (it's been done with dogs.) The problem is that they can't reattach the spinal cord, so the resulting patient will be a quadriplegic.

I care not about a new squishy, easily brekable and in a few years again failing body. Where's the improvement in that? I guess handicapped people could use that, but again, where's the imporvement?
Still, a step forward.

I'm pretty sure it's not possible or at least it won't be until we figure out how to re-connect the spinal cord

Just a few months until the event - December 2017

We are already playing God ... and if this turns out to be successful ... i really can't imagine the worldwide impact it will have ... in the negative way.

I'll point you to the mirror🎵 🎶

How negative? Lives can be saved thanks to that, I don't think it's really any different than arms/organs transplant... just a bit more "complete". :P

I know the good part of it. I didn't want to go into details regarding the negative ones... but i was referring to military exploits and ... bah ... new world order stuff, rich vs poor priority, etc
