Everybody saw that coming, right?

The only thing that prevented me seeking legal counsel for a long list of breach of contracts, interference with business, and anti-trust issues was the fear of losing my family's income. Since that has been taken away I am seeking legal representation

Yes, this is their official website, looks as good as their games

True, although:

Edit: To clarify a bit, the General category should be used for SteamGifts and Steam related discussions

Yep, this is known confirmed psychological effect that we tend to agree with articles that match our initial point of view, regardless if facts included in there are actually true or not. However, after trying to sue 100 steam users for negative reviews, sueing Jim Sterling, and trying to force Valve to give private details of those people, I honestly doubt that they'll admit defeat now, regardless of article. Plus, it's quite reliable source, not some made-up website for clickbaits. I tend to verify that before spreading out news, I just considered it funny enough to post.

Top notch comedy. I just hope that this will be a warning to every hobby greenlight dev on steam who might think he can go around throwing lawsuits if his game does not have the success he/she/it hopes for.

Seeking legal representation doesnt mean they are suing. It means they are hiring a lawyer. After which the lawyer will likely tell them they have no chance.

In case the webpage gets updated in the future, an archived version of their homepage is provided here for reference.

And yes, http://www.digitalhomicide.ninja/ is indeed their official website. Please don't be surprised if you feel like they put as much effort on their website as they did in their games.

That archived version is a lot easier to read than the main one, due to not having the things on the side about their bundles.

Did you see they are selling their games on itch.io. 5% off each game or you can (be brave and...) buy them all.

I don't get why Vavle allows devs to generate keys for removed games... it was the same with that Russian Rock N' Roll Racing clone a few years ago. It was removed because they used unlicensed art and sounds from the original game. After it was removed from Steam though, they kept on selling Steam keys from their own site.

Vavle is weird sometimes.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

itch.io is its own platform, it has nothing to do with Valve or Steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It doesn't state anywhere on that site that you get steam keys.

And those keys you are mentioning are most likely keys they already had in stock before the games were removed .

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They've said it comes with Steam keys on their official Steam group though.

The keys might be already generated, but since there's no limit to how many a dev can request... it doesn't really matter. A dev could have enough keys on hand to cover for years of sales. The Russian Rock'N'Roll clone (Motor Rock) for example is still to this day selling keys for their game on their site, despite being removed from Steam back in 2013.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But what do you want Steam to do? Revoke the keys? They may then hurt people that actually bought the game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think it would be justified in cases such as with Motor Rock. The game was blatantly using stolen assets from the original game (which they didn't have the license to do). The fact you can still buy a copy of it for Steam to this day kind of defeats the purpose of them removing it in the first place, doesn't it?

Vavle could have put up a notice on the store page and given people a month or two to activate the keys, before disabling all unused keys. That would be reasonable if you ask me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can't generate steam keys for purchase disabled or removed games (according to Christopher Park from Arcen Games). But any already generated keys will still work, so if a dev things they're going down, or just generate batches of keys for future use, they can keep selling their game for a long time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Which is a major flaw because if I ever released game on Steam, first thing I'd do after getting it on store would be generating 100k keys "just in case"...
