Looking on the Sony forums, seems to be a good number of people with problems after an update.

Less than 40 posts on the forum isn't a "good number of people". I didn't bother seeing how many were multiple posts by the same user.

The thread was also made November 1st, if it was a huge issue we would have heard about it before December 29th.

Its more than there should be.

As for the date of the thread, I went to Google to see what this was about and linked.

Well i looked at 2 sites and its an optional update that improves stability

Yes.

"Improves stability" is normally code for "anti-piracy/exploit/homebrew measure", and can have little or nothing to do with actually improving stability. Rarely, a company may even list removing a legit feature under the "improves stability" claim.

Nintendo claimed "improves stalibity" with pretty much every Wii system update, and it always meant "anti-homebrew measures" for them.

PS3 is awesome. Some great games are available on it, just like almost any console (Casio Loopy being the exception). But if you want to delude yourself, go ahead. Your loss.

Every console is better and have better games.

See above, where I mentioned deluding yourself. PS3 has stuff worth playing like

3D Dot Game Heroes
Demon's Souls
Ratchet & Clank series
Valkyria Chronicles

And that is just named from my small 6 game collection.

Naaah, average games.

I pity you so much, thinking Ratchet & Clank is average.

Maybe the two made by High Impact Games for PSP, but the others are great.

Average? fail troll is fail. The PS3 has IMO the best exclusives (compared to Xbox mainly, Nintendo is 'different' and awesome in its own way and not including PC).

Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone, Demon Souls, Resistance, God of War, Gran Turismo, Heavy Rain, Flower, Valkyria Chronicles, inFamous, Ratchet & Clank, heck even LBP is great.

All of the above games can be considered 'pretty good to awesome' compared to shit that gets released nowadays.

To the xbox fans: don't be mad, Forza is awesome but I just don't get the hype of Halo or Gears of War. So many PC games already did it pretty much and most lot of times better too. Personal opionion i guess, but calling above games 'shit' or "average' reminds me of a 12yr old fanboy.

thats because most xbox fanboys are 12 yr olds, duh! =p

All fanboys are 12 or stuck in the mindset of a 12 year old.

Why 4.20? CFW 4.30, not a single eboot fix required :p

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I dont think there is even a 4.30 cfw yet :p. Still, there is not a single eboot fix required in 4.20 either.

There is, from Rogero, but I'm sticking with Rebug and 4.21 REX for now :)

Latest version is Rogero CEX-4.30 v2.03. It's also spoofed to 4.31.

Can't remember which games but i thought there were a few who required 4.25, could be wrong.

Hmm, didnt knew that, thought they stopped at 4.20. Well I will be sticking with 4.20 for now, never saw a game that required higher cfw than that, and Im happy with my setup.

I hope one day they make PS3 finally be able to read NFTS drives completely. Then it would be the best media center ever :D

Practically every patch in fact - even mine died 30 minutes after patching once. Most would have you believe it is simply coincidence, but when you see several hundred unique posts all over the internet describing the exact same thing... All I can say is I'm not too big on coincidences - the patch itself may not have directly killed them, but something related to it may have.

Likely nothing will ever come of it, though.

Sony tended to break compatibility with a few games with pretty much every hardware revision of the PS2.

I don't believe Nintendo ever owned up to any responsibility when one of the Wii updates bricked systems, instead claiming all the bricked systems were ones that had been soft modded. One of the hacking groups had looked at Nintendo's update code and seen that it was faulty. Not guaranteed to fail, but something that could cause problems in some (legit) systems when you considered the sheer number of systems that would be running the update.

Comment has been collapsed.

I concur, but as you pointed out, with the sheer number of consoles involved it would be ridiculous to expect that 100% of them will not have any issues after applying firmware updates.
