Ok so I offer this one guy a tf2 fall crate for 2 rec ( I know huge lowball) but he refused wich I can understand so I was all polite and stuff and at the end he said bitch, and now he is saying i have threatened and scammed him????

How much more stupid can that be like honestly you accept offer or refuse offer and let it be.

Anyone else had problems like that?

This is the reason I usually check the people with one or 2 negative rep. Sometimes those are given by stupid people saying they're slow or their avatar sucks etc. The rules are stickied on ST as well, I think if he gives you a negative for an illegitimate reason you should contact support. Thankfully, I didn't meet any of these people yet (not through trade anyway).

Lowballing is not scamming.

It's not scamming but the sole intent of these offers is to screw the guy over, that's just as bad in my book.

But yeah, it's not against the rule to make a very juicy transaction.

EDIT: although it would be a scam if the other guy asked him if the recs and the crate were of equivalent value and OP said yes, or if he purposely withheld that he was lowballing him. It's a pretty fine line really.

No see its really not. Its up to the user/s involved to know whats worth what.
If someone goes out and pays 400 bucks for a first gen xbox when they were told its a 1st gen xbox, thats on them. If I post my PC parts up for 200 bucks when they are worth 500 thats on me.

If you are going to participate in an area you should know what the hell youre doing. Just like if I were to go to Japan on holiday, I shouldnt be upset that everyone there speaks Japanese and not English, IE I should have learned at least basic Japanese even when going to a resort like location.

"Its up to the user/s involved to know whats worth what."

That's true. However if the guy had asked if the crate was of same value as 2 recs and OP had said yes or said that he didn't know (when he knew it wasn't), that would be a scam.

But you're right in this case, it's not a scam. I'm quoting basic contract law assuming this applies here but there are no binding agreements so you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want.

In a situation where you have a binding contract however, it is up to you to be informed, yes, HOWEVER, the other party is bound to answer truthfully to your questions and disclose all relevant information, otherwise the contract isn't valid.

For instance if you buy a house and the seller doesn't tell you that hidden under the paint there's water leaking into the walls, the contract isn't worth shit and you're entitled to get your money back (+ compensation probably).

I did ask him if he wanted to.... It's not like I was adding a hat and then somehow scamming him.....

(sorry for the mistakes)

Yes but you're knowingly trading him an item that is of considerably lower value. It's allowed but if he asked you about the value of the crate or the fairness of the transaction and you lied or withheld information, it IS a scam.

I did not lie he was aware of everything i just asked him if i could lowball. I wouldn't make a person accept my trade if he/she didn't know about the real prices...

But since they didn't, it's hardly relevant. People can push their luck whenever they like. I made a 1200% profit on a trade I made about a month ago. It was a highball from them, but I wasn't going to say no. The values did come up and I told the truth and they didn't care. It's pushing my luck, running a gamble of getting a profit and being totally turned down. As long as you don't cross the line of lying, then it's fine. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

That's it, every party is responsible for looking up the details and asking the right questions, as long as you don't lie or withhold relevant information about something the other guy asked about it's fair game.

I've had plenty of people do the same thing. Deal is not done and he/she throws a few insults my way, deletes me then leaves me negative feedback. I just get in contact with support with screenshots of the conversation and my trade history to show no scams have taken place etc. every single time their account has been banned for inappropriate behavior etc. best just to do that.

But yes, there are plenty of retarded traders floating around. I would imagine the majority are prepubescent, immature nolifers with nothing better to do than get on peoples tits.

Good luck getting it sorted :P

not really, unless you're trading keys, which is kinda greasy anyway. besides, if you have any compunction, just ask them to go first.

Rep is only meant to be used for confirmed trades and for scam warnings. It is not an "attitude rating" that some think it is and we suspend for abuse of it. I'll be asking cg for the ability to delete rep later.

From my experience, more times then not applying standard logic to a situation often leaves me more confused then not. Humans are seldom logical in understanding and actions.
