Can't remember on mine, but on my brother's we tested Green Hell I think. RX 570 8GB. It was a third of the GTX1080 at the time (past december), but "cheaper" than the RX were all bad cards (and also more expensive lul). Managed to get it on the cheapest store in the country.

I'm pretty sure that my first game with my new PC was actually something requiring very low-specs. I'm a chaotic being. Resident Evil VII came not very long after that. And since then, Pillars of Eternity 2, Spyro, The Evil Within 2, No Man's Sky and currently The Surge (and likely The Surge 2 soon, I'll probably buy it).
On my previous PC, I had a GTX 950, which was an update of the super weak and useless "graphic card" that came with the cheap PC, a Radeon HD 4500 or something like that. That's almost a mere graphic chipset. I also updated to 8GB RAM from the 4GB I had at first.
The GTX950 could have been enough for my use for a while. But the CPU and the MB were pure garbage too, and the PC was old.
I invested 6 months ago in my very first "bling bling" gaming PC, with RTX 2070 Super, i5 9600, my very first SSD, 16GB 3200MHz, good parts overall. Before that, High/Ultra settings was not part of my vocabulary, that was a fairytale.
Not a super-bling-bling-most-powerful-computer-ever, but a very, very good one, more than enough for me and for the next 5-10 years (not a problem for me if I won't be able to set the games from 2027 to Ultra+++), and also less expensive than I expected for a gaming PC.
Do I use it to play 2020 games full ultra ? Not yet actually. Still playing mostly 2012-2018 games. Silly me.

Doom after my upgrade a couple of years ago. Looked good. I'm probably due another upgrade, but it doesn't feel like I really need one.

I dont remember the first two upgrades along my life (GT9500 and R7 250)
The last one, (last year) was a RTX2060 Turbo in a full upgrade (w/ amd ryzen 2600, 16gb ram)
First games with hight requiriments that I try were
The Evil Within 2/ Darksiders III / Devil May Cry 5 / A Plague Tale: Innocence
Re.play: Batman: Arkham Knight
I just finish Watch_Dogs 2 and I like it, so im giving an oportunity/ playing Watch_Dogs 1 (never play it before)
Next one will be Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice // Final Fantasy XV // Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom // Middle-earth: Shadow of War (I hope, this year)
EDIT: sorry for my basic english

My friend sent me his old GTX 970 last year as a birthday present, along with all the guts as well, with 16gb ram! so basically everything but a case and power supply LoL. First games tested were Warframe, World of Warcraft, and Destiny 2. In that order. My old one ran Warframe and WoW anywhere from barely acceptable to poorly. This one has no issues with any of them ;P

What's the first game you played to test your PC after a needed graphics upgrade? As I just received my first dedicated GPU a short while ago -- that being an RX 480, if I recall correctly -- I'm finally able to play something more graphically intensive than Pong on Low settings, and decided to finally give Overwatch, Apex Legends, and Rocket League a trial run (and I'm glad I did)!
