Let's all hope for a 2025 with "better Good Guys" and far less gambling, online or not.

Should Valve remove all masked forms of gambling from its games?

View Results
Yes, gambling is wrong. Especially when targeting minors.
No, I got vested interest in the continuation of this activity.

I can't stand all the manipulative stuff like loot boxes and mystery bundles, but I do enjoy poker.

Edit: I wanted to clarify that I am talking about poker against other people, not playing against a computer.

It's a shame that the CS2 esports scene is primarily propped up by these skin casinos. It's probably a reason why Valve doesn't ban skin gambling (provided they even want to), it would kill a lot of the teams and players. And the skin prices, which would make a lot of people angry. But it would stop kids from spending their parents money on skin gambling because some Youtubers, who are being paid millions a year, are showing them how easy it is to gamble.

It makes me upset that even though Valve is making easy billions via selling games on Steam, they're still a-okay with underage gambling further helping their profits. Like any other corporation, Valve doesn't want to make a lot of money. They want to make all the money.

Most people love Steam and its features, they're super happy to throw money at Gaben for simply existing. But it doesn't stop them from turning a blind eye to the immoral shit that makes them money on the side.

At this point Valve's actions are pretty much inexcusable, they know they're abusing loopholes to be able to support gambling in their games and would rather continue to do so instead of coming clean and following gambling regulations, but it's been years and governments are also to blame for not being able to catch up to such an obvious exploit of gray areas of the law.

Mind you, I'm not against legal and properly regulated gambling, I see casinos the same way I see alcohol or weed, it might not be for me but I think it's better to have those kind of vices legalized and properly regulated rather than pushed into the hands of the mafia. The real issue here is that because Counter Strike gambling is done on the dark corners of the law that means that a shitload of minors get access to it, and Valve's position is indefensible because they don't even need to do this is such a shady way when they're literally shoveling money into their coffers from other sources, they can afford to do a little cleaning without going bust.

What should be promptly nuked is gambling sites being able to sponsor e-sports teams tho, that crap should be grounds for disqualification from tournaments asap, if not made outright illegal.

only thing valve can really do in this situation is make the items untradeable, which is simply a business suicide. you can't expect let alone demand them to do that.

They could get rid of the randomness and take measures against the skin casinos, sure that will tank the market value of the high priced items, but the ones that will lose most of the money are the gamblers and those facilitating the gambling rather than valve. There's ways to disencourage gambling, and they had the chance to do deeper changes in how the item market for Counter Strike worked back when they transitioned from CS:GO to CS2, but they apparently didn't do anything. Also, it's a privately owned company, they don't need to answer to investors, if they want to do something they can.

But to be clear I don't expect them to do any of these things because they're clearly more interested in the money than anything else when it comes to this particular issue, but the thing I would like to see is for them to come clean and admit to it.

I personally don't have any problem with gambling, i simply don't do it, and at the same time think children shouldn't have access to their parents money, so i also don't see it as a problem for them.
The only thing i think should be changed is telling people the odds of lootboxes and such if they are weighed.

A man with style knows how to spend his money wisely and joyfully.

And remember, this company isn’t just taking candy from a baby—they're selling all range of sweets at premium prices!
