Who's here love to see that tiny "Achievement Unlocked" box popping up on your screen and who thinks it's pointless?
Do you think Steam achievements are one of selling points for Steam games?

For me, availability of Steam achievements are one of my consideration when I want to buy some game on Steam, aside of multiplayer and steamworks stuff.

I don't care about them. Pointless imo

Ranked 97th SPAH and 162 AStats worldwide. Can anyone beat me?

If they are there, OK. If they are not, OK as well. I doesn't make a difference to me, if they are present or not, and if I earn them or not.
But to answer your question, I think Steam achievements don't have the same appeal as those on X360(Win) and PS3. There is just something pointless about them.

I like some of them. I would very much welcome achievements for old games I own but not on Steam. Something like achievements in Doom 3, I would buy it right away. +some overall achievements would be cool, something like on Eggsbox. Even then, I don't "hunt them" that much.

As you've mentioned, I like seeing the little box pop up but I'm not too fussed on "hunting" them. Conversely, on Xbox Live I am a bit of an achievement hunter. Perhaps because the achievements have actual points, I dunno.

I approve achievements if they are challenging and make you do things that you wouldn't mention without an achievement. Like, "Balls" in DX:HR or "Stand at the highest point of Panau" in Just Cause 2. But if they are like "Complete chapter 1", "Complete chapter 2", etc., I don't even care about them.

Well not definitely a selling point, but definitely makes me replay certain games.

Achievements often offer extra things to do in the game, whether it's a first play or a replay, so they're fine with me. A little more to do, especially if you've basically finished a game, know the plot, etc., can be good. I don't really specifically look for them in a game, but it's nice if they're there.

Achievements give you a purpose to play more of a game you like if you've finished it.

For me achievements are not that important when it comes to buying a game. But game with achievements have more replay value. I often try to do as many as possible. Also some of them are challenging which requires skills or certain things to do.

Meh, don't care at all to tell you the truth, always felt like it was the easy mans version of a high score list.

If they have a point like "Unlock so and so" then its cool.

Achivements. It's awesome. Without achivements boring to play (about 30%)

I love steam achievements, but sometimes they can be frustrating (not unlocking the keep off the sand achievement in Half Life 2 because I was playing in offline mode). But they also give you an incentive to play the game a bit differently. Plus Steam is pretty awesome for giving out free stuff during the christmas event for unlocking certain achievements. I got Killing Floor for free because I did a few achievements and traded 4 coal to someone on my friends list.

I'm a fan of them in general. I hate it when they give you retarded achievements that nobody would ever attempt normally. Some games like to do those but when they're done right it can make you explore the game more and could be a reason to go back and play it again if you missed some.

Uhm, mixed feelings... I liked them when they had a purpose, like in TF2 to unlock weapons or something similar in any other game. Right now i'm playing Diablo III and i only actively go for the achievements that unlock more options for my banner.

I hate the achievements you don't have to really earn (Defeat this mandatory boss, finish this mandatory level)[See:Garshasp]

More or less my main goal in a game and the main thing I'm searching for when getting the game. There are a few exception though. :)

I have a long(sort of) and complex(again, sort of) backstory as to why, but it doesn't really matter. ^_^

I love achievements as implemented by the consoles (and even GFWL), but on Steam it's not worth a damn thing. I don't even usually notice the tiny, soundless notification come up on the bottom corner of my screen.

I bought my first game on Steam BECAUSE of achievements :3 I'd like for them to have some other purpose though, like 15% cheaper titles from certain developer if you get certain number of achievements on other games from that developer, or something like that.

Achievements tell you how a person plays a game. Also, getting them is fun.
