32, why not? :d

To hell with alltalk, teamspeak is the only way a server can properly operate.

Been a while since I've placed TF2, but UK-US pings are pretty damn good, no matter the game or where server is based. Still, I'd vote for one end of the country or the other, so it's easier for other timezones. If you want to favour Europe, put it in New York. If you want to favour Asia's ping, somewhere on the West Coast.
32 would be a good number as well.

I don't even get 100 ping to all the US servers sometimes. Though I tend to blame that on the server, not my connection.

You would prolly want to go with NYC since it will help European players have lower ping. BTW who are you going to use to host your server? Are you looking for someone to donate one for ya? If so add me I have server boxes in LA, Chicago, NJ, NYC, & Europe.

New York servers always orbitate around 100 ~ 160 ping for me down here in South America.

Another data point: I never had any problems with CS/CS:S pings to any US servers from Ipswich in the UK (almost as far east as you can get in the UK). Am in NZ now and have been playing TF2 lately. Pings are on the high-side to the US but not as bad as all that. But then I remember playing CS in the 56.6k days...
Stock rotation, 24 players. :)

Have to agree with this, I live in NY but play international servers (depending on what I want to play atm). A map that I've been playing on a lot is a Chicago server and I have about a 30-50 ping, which is fine with me. And either server size is fine, too, whichever the community wants more :D.

If we toss up a TF2 server, which location would you prefer? It'll be setup in the US due to the majority of the SG community being based there, but which city? Chicago? New York? Dallas? How are pings in Europe for US servers on the east coast?
As for player count, standard 24 players? Or 32 players with larger maps?
