you should reconfigure until it works, try other .dll

Your phone can actually be a good replacement for your controller, here are a couple of apps for that:
4joy
Ultimate Gamepad

Unfortuantely, no, but I'm sure you can find some on app store, just search something like: gamepad, controller, gamepad emulator, etc.

I think there's a mistake in Q2. It only points to one answer, but that's wrong

in the x360ce program, everything is mapped correctly
for instance: the buttons 1,2,3 and 4 in my controller are equivalent to Y, B, A and X in a 360 controller respectively
however, in darksouls, when I press the button 4 (mapped to be X), the guy backsteps, as if I pressed B...
Then I reconfigure the config file for the button 4 to be mapped as B instead, but in game nothing changes! x_x

It looks like there is a specific issue with Dark Souls. You can read here about it. It looks like you may need to replace the default .dll that is created and use the VS2010 library instead with this particular game. It's on the downloads page as a separate download.
This page is also good to read in general (most notably the part about renaming the .dll to get some games to detect it).

No problem, hope it works for you. I have yet to play Dark Souls, but when I do I imagine I will be doing the above with x360ce.
Also, on a side note:
I've noticed that with a few games if you install x360ce into the game folder but then you play the game with keyboard/mouse and don't have the gamepad plugged in, it can cause the game to stutter once every several seconds. Happens on my system with a few games that I've noticed anyway. This had me confused at first as to why it was happening until I figured it out. This is easily resolved by having the gamepad plugged in even if you aren't using it or by removing the x360ce installation.

Hey, I have a correct version of x360ce for it and will tell you as soon as I find it.

+1 for this. Quick to set up for my ps3 controller as well!

Hey, Nearly figured it all out in the first try; Excepcting Q4 , I don't get it :L , do you mean when you use it or something in the background?
PD: Sorry for not knowing anything about the topic excepting the greatness of the game ( I use mouse & keyboard ).

Just test different versions of x360ce, although your controller might be way too old and it might not be supported by x360ce. My cordless rumblepad 2 works with dark souls with x360ce without problems, so anything newer than it should also work.

I have 2 of the same. Definitely one of the best gamepads ever. So thankful for x360ce because these gamepads are pretty much identical to the newer Logitech F710. I haven't really looked into it, but I don't suppose you know of a place to get replacement buttons so that I can change 1,2,3,4 for A,B,X,Y, etc like on the F-series pads?? Not really a big deal but it would be kind of cool to do it. Hmmmm I should probably give Logitech a call first.

Are the hints broken? It has shown "Hints will appear in 0h 30m" for hours now.

Here, try my config files, I've used it with Dark Souls and many other games and it works perfect.
Only 1 game so far did what you mentioned, Mark of the Ninja, in which I switched config on the game and/or edited the INI, works like a charm!

haha thanks!
The 1st GA is one of the most important moments of one's life :P
And it's ok, I've been reading stuff and it seems like darksouls is a complicated game when it comes to x360ce...
But there are some people who found solutions, and I'm sure one of these solutions will also work for me :)

I recently broke my 360 controller, and I can't buy a new one for now...
That's fine cause I have an old logitech one that works just as fine, however, when i try to play darksouls with it, it doesn't detect the controller :(
Someone suggested me to use x360ce, and i did, and it's awesome, but no matter how i reconfigure the keys, some buttons are always swapped, which makes it really weird to play x.x
Any ideas? :(
anyway, here's something for you :)
