Good guess, but I'm afraid it's not that. This one is a slight bit younger.
vague hint drop time
You're in the right ballpark regarding genre... however, there is a crucial fundamental difference.

Beyond Shadowgate / Shadowgate 64: Trials of the Four Towers / Shadowgate Rising?

Not a Shadowgate game. Added second image. Also, the difference I alluded to above applies here as well.

Hint: Name contains a number but the game is not a sequel or part of a bigger series.

Things are starting to look MMO-ey now.
So early MMORPG, has number in the title, is not a sequel or a series...
Meridian 59 ?

Yep, the last image was a huge giveaway.
Some interesting factoids about Meridian 59.
The game was the first internet game from a major publisher, the first time that an MMO got covered in major game magazines, the first graphical MMO to move beyond 2-D, the first MMO to have a flat rate monthly subscription, the first MMO sold in a retail box, the first MMO that was accessible via the internet instead of a service provider, and the first MMO that used the web to handle accounts and deliver a client download.

True, but my reasoning for this was I don't think you'd see the detailed green foliage of the first one in Fallen London, the second one could go either way, however, I was hoping the last pic being a space background would make it clear ;)

At least this time it was specific (I'll pass again) ;p

Ah, insta-recognised... I was hoping this would take longer! And cheers for linking to the actual clip :D

The game was way ahead of its time. Too bad we never got anything like it in terms of quality since.

There isn't any actual advantage that someone takes if they post a new screenshot, though. It's just for improving the pace of the game.

That was a very intuitive guess, but I have finished the game half a year ago :)

Also the wrong franchise.
Amnesia series also has fewer entries

No, this is less than a decade old.
Also, extra screenie up now that I have access to a real computer instead of just a phone.

No, but the series this game belongs in currently has the same number of entries released.

Pineview Drive !
I have like zero idea how I figured out, as I never played this game (only watched like 2 minutes of a walkthrough), and as I wasn't aware of a second game in this licence.
Seeing the second screenshot, something screamed to my mind "Oh, maybe this walking simulator game, with a name close to "Mulholland Drive"".
And indeed, the swing

Winner!
There's this game, a free prequel to this and a free prequel to the actual sequel.
Wether the actual sequel will happen at all after a failed Kickstarter campaign remains to be seen.

I got pised off at it pretty fast. For what little I've played, it makes every mistake a horror game can make.
The only positive thing I can think of is that the flashlight actually behaves fairly accurately, unlike so many similar horror games that have been shoveled onto the steam store.

Gamers in Paradise?
Yes, the subtitle is a spoof on Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise. Because the last thread reminded me that no matter how good you think you are at something, there is always someone more masterful that you can learn from. :)
