already done after i posted. it had been awhile....

You don't need that 750W unless you are planning on getting another GPU in the future, you can go for Seasonic 550W Gold semi-modular which is bit more pricier.
That SSD is oddly cheap, I paid around the same for my Samsung 840 Pro 128GB.
Do you have CPU cooler of your own? The stock coolers are absolute shit. If you don't, then Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO is a solid choice for pretty cheap.

i might get another GPU in the future. i just wanted a little higher so the psu did not have to work so hard and to account for degrading of power over the lifespan of the unit. yeah looking at more coolers and bigger cases for better airflow and room to work with.

It's not useless. It took me forever to instll everything using my usb, but then I stopped being lazy and disassembled my old pc for the optical drive :P

This primarily for gaming? The i7 won't net you any extra performance, you can skate away just fine with the i5 4670k. Also, since you have a nice mobo and an unlocked multiplier CPU that's too easy to overclock, I'd get an aftermarket cooler. Doesn't have to be anything too expensive. A $30 Hyper 212 EVO gets my 3570k to 4.5ghz easy. Either way, the stock cooler is pretty bad and loud and even if you don't plan to OC I'd still get some sort of aftermarket cooler. Mobo is fine. I would go for either G.Skill or Corsair for RAM or something of the like, mostly because I find it weird to have AMD perf ram in an Intel build, and aethestics, lol. AMD GPU prices are inflated right now because of Bitcoin mining, you could get a GTX770 which performs nearly exactly the same, for less. And besides that, nice build. Just tryin' to save you some monies.

Well if he's not going to be doing a lot of heavy encoding/rendering, the hyperthreading on the i7 that has no impact on gaming performance at all will be all but wasted, so why pay more for something you potentially won't use?

Indeed it is, but with RAM prices continually spiking, doesn't hurt to get more and be safe for longer in contrast to spending more on a potentially wasted CPU feature.

With DDR4 expected at the end of 2014, DDR3 prices will likely fall massively. Depending on how soon he wants this build, this may be a valid consideration.

If you're going to use this for gaming you can save a lot of money by changing the ram,CPU, and MoBo.
It looks like you want to overclock, but why are you missing the CPU cooler?
The 770 gives a better perfomance at a lower cost.
You wont need that much wattage for a single card setup the XFX XTR 550w should be just fine, but if you want to do cross-fire/SLI I recommend getting a better PSU brand. Antec HCG-750M if you want a semi-modular PSU, and the XFX Pro Series if you want a fully modular one.

I honestly don't care what CPU you're going to use, and you can stick with your old ssd if you want to.
Edit: Oh stick with the 4770k if you're planning to record or stream.
