Do you know if someone can use only steam keys and give desura??

Indie royale doesn't encourage that

It's cheap, it supports Indie developers. Just buy another copy.

You can do it if you want. But it's kind of lame.

No. They give you keys for different platforms so that you can have the freedom to use your license of the game on as many platforms as you want (or to choose the best one for you).

They are NOT giving you two copies of the game, and thus you are exploiting their generosity by doing this.

Wow. I wouldn't have thought To the Moon would already be in a bundle. And now I feel like I should have waited for it, although I'm happy to support the developers by purchasing full price.

Yay!! Something nice to break up all those The Ship giveaways.

I recommend Blackwell Deception. It's a great game and a must for anyone who has the IR bundle that featured the first 3 games.

Is knowledge of the previous titles necessary to get the most out of Blackwell Deception?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I had the same question.. after looking around it seems most people say it's not necessary to play the first games, but that if you have and you know everything that happened before it'll be more enjoyable.

It is not necessary to play the previous games. Though there are one or two references that might be a bit less familiar to you when you play it.

OK, I found a review that seems to confirm that:

"Deception is the fourth in the Blackwell series, and while I’d recommend playing the others first if you’ve been meaning to – not least because they got markedly better as the series continued and the first one especially will be a bit of a shock after finishing this one – it’s self-contained enough that doing so isn’t actually essential. What you need to know, you’re told during a quick playable prologue section. The rest, you can pick up easily enough on the fly."

Sounds good, cheers.

I HIGHLY recommend to play the previous games in the series, or it will ruin the experience for you, if you ask me.

those are NOT gameplay heavy games(even though the 4th one has more gameplay bits in it, I guess), and they rely much more on the story.

Hmm, thanks for the warning! :) I guess I'll end up buying the bundle and waiting to play until I can afford the rest of the series, then.

Thought Indie Royale keys weren't supposed to be traded according to them. But I guess we play by our own rules?

TOS are not legally binding so technically you do whatever you want with them.

Well, "being a git" is technically legal as well, but it's still something that probably shouldn't be widely encouraged. What I find totally beyond my comprehension, is people who even explicitly say something like "I've already used the Desura key, so I'll give you the Steam one".

I've never given any Desura keys to IR bundles. The thought never even crossed my mind. I only do Steam and DDL.

Wow, got the soundtrack version at 10 bucks and this just shows up. Didn't think it would be in a bundle this early. Sigh.

Just devalued my copy a good deal.

The value is only what you place from playing it. It can't devalue your experience. If you thought it was worth $10 that's what you paid. Plenty probably value it at less. But that is personal preference.

I mean devalued as a gift - I was planning to use it as a prize for some sort of puzzle giveaway, but it seems much less attractive now that everyone has it :P

Plus a quick glance at my giveaways now makes it seem like I give away mostly bundle keys :<

Shouldn't the Collectors edition keep its value, since IR doesn't has the soundtrack?

It's not labelled with a * so I guess you're right. Not too concerned about contributor value though :P

The CD-Key and Steam key for Oil Rush both activate on Steam. So you effectively get 2 copies of the game.

I just saw that. Fortunately I had taken the extra keys before they disappeared from the page. I guess they realized that people could use both keys for the same purpose.

And you can still do it :). Just activate the Desura version and see the cd key on it. It redeemable on steam and I believe its the exact same one that appeared on the "cd key" part on indie royale site.

Debating on whether to use the Desura codes for the games of if I want them on Steam... The album at $8 is bad though. Not a fan.
But obviously, the games are worth the cash anyways.

I don't like the To The Moon copies cropping up in the giveaways. It's against Indie Royal rules to give away separate keys.
