It's worth noting that the staff of GOG are the developers of the Witcher games. So if you want to support the developers, it is best to buy from them.

Creators of The Witcher deserve every penny for giving their customers DRM free software and of course a very solid follow-up of an rpgto their first installment. It was one of the few games I've paid $30 for, bought the first for full price also.

the price of The Witcher 2 was lower on Amazon a few days back during the cyber monday sales... $16. It was also on sale on steam for around that price. On GOG, it will be $24, a difference that you can use to buy another game (or even 2-3 games during their sale) on their own site. I already have an extra copy of The Witcher they are bundling in on there (gog), so the extra copy will not help me in anyway as it is not going to be a gift-able copy.
Ok, yeah I want to support the devs and all, but that doesn't mean that I should be expected to pay more because they are devs. If anything, I would expect to pay less BECAUSE they are devs since there are less middle-men (distributors/retailers) involved and the money goes directly to them instead of a crappy percentage. IMO, they should make it at least 60% off or something.

Amazon will be $24 and Steam $40 unless they have specials at the same time. So that makes GOG tied for the cheapest. (edit: Amazon is that low because it's already on sale so it's not likely to get any lower, but it does come with $5 credit to buy a game in January.)
Why do you believe the extra copy won't be giveable? As I understand it, you buy The Witcher 2 as a gift, redeem the code for yourself to get The Witcher 2 (but not The Witcher because you already have that), then give the code to someone else who can redeem it for the first game.
Someone will have to confirm this, but as far as I know that is how the process works.

I am talking on past prices. Last Monday, on Cyber Monday, The Witcher 2 Digital Premium Edition was on sale for $16. You can also find a thread about it here; people were quite hyped. That is the lowest I have seen it so far. If you missed the chance to buy it then, yes perhaps GOG could be cheaper. What I am saying is, since a retailer has already sold it for $16 dollars, it makes more sense to me that the devs and their direct affiliates should at least match that price, if not make it cheaper.
Secondly, regarding your "code" comment; GOG does not give codes. When you buy the game, it is added to your library where you can download the game and any other content that they provide with the game (manuals, soundtracks, etc). Hence when you buy Witcher 2, Witcher also gets added to your library (and since my library already has Witcher, I will not get a second item in the library for the same item). Hence, no codes to give to someone else.

Your reasoning doesn't make sense to me, but that's OK - grab it from wherever you can get a deal that you like.
You're wrong about the codes though. When you buy from GOG there is a checkbox labelled "Select to gift this order" which lets you get a code instead of adding games to your library.
edit: UPDATE FROM GOG.com: "If you already have The Witcher 1: Enhanced Edition, please contact support to get a giftable code for The Witcher 1: Enhanced Edition when buying The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in this promo."

Can someone fix the link? The hipster formatting system broke it and I don't seem to be able to find the news post.

The promotion has started
Since this is a Steam-related site it's worth pointing out that this is NOT redeemable on Steam.

For those of you that did not get any of the witcher games you'll get another chance starting this thursday on GOG.
Starting on this Thursday, we’ll have The Witcher 2 on an eye-popping 40% off discount for 48 hours AND we’re bundling in a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition with any purchase of The Witcher 2. We’ll be running this from 11.00 GMT on Thursday 8 December until 10.59 GMT on 10 December, and it’s the best bargain we’re going to have on the Witcher series this holiday season!
I never bought anything here,so I can't say if you can redeem then on steam, but I don't think you can. Still, a great deal if you haven't bought them on autuum sale on steam.
