So far i have picked Sony Xperia Sola, the budget is 250 dollars.

The thing i dislike about Sony Xperia Sola is that it has built in battery, but maybe it's a good thing?
I am not an expert in phones.. so i would like your opinion about them.

Thanks

The main function of any phone is to be able to call people. Majority of modern phones manage to do that quite well.
The only defining factor should be aesthetical pleasance. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise and start jabber about CPU's or GPU's smash 'em with a phone. The kind Bell invented, not mobile one.

My thingamajigy of choice is Sony Ericsson Xperia arc. Simply because it was new at the time and looked different and exquisite.

Say what you want to get from your phone. Otherwise I'll offer you a Nokia C5-02.

I might be getting the HTC One next, got upgrade going in June. Really curious what Vodafone is going to offer me.

Not a phone for you though, much too expensive when your budget is "only" 250 dollars.

Do you have a preference for an operating system? Android vs Windows for example?
The good thing about the Sony ones is that some of them are water tight, which means they also wont allow dust to come in.

I myself have Xperia U. It's a great phone all in all, quite powerful, as long as you don't switch to Ice Cream Sandwich. If I'm not wrong it's more powerful than Sola at about the same price, one of the cheapest Xperia series phones. The only flaw is integrated memory card, thus not allowing you to change the amount of memory. However it is 4GB for system (of which you can use 2GB) and 4GB for data, of which you can use all 4GB.

and why don't you recommend updating to Ice Cream Sandwich?

Requests too much memory, shortens battery life..?

Yeah, as expected, it uses more resources in general, and doesn't add that much functionality. I was considering upgrading because of that Walkman player and pinch-to-zoom camera, but after seeing how much the performance gets reduced, I decided not to. It really depends what you use the phone for, if you just call/text/browse internet, you might be alright after upgrading to ICS, however be aware, it will feel unresponsive, while GB feels extremely responsive. Maybe if you upgrade right away, you won't feel it, but those who used the phone while on GB will definitely see a difference.

I have this phone. It is cheap and plenty powerful. It runs everything I have wanted it to. It is easily rooted. I suggest installing Cyanogenmod to any phone that you get. It has much better performance and more options.
