Comcast has once again decided to enact a bandwidth limitation on its users, in select areas. Luckily, I am in one of those areas. They are limiting bandwidth usage to 300GB/month and charging an extra $10 after that, per 50GB block. I have always exceeded that limit and already pay out the butt for service anyway. Comcast is the only option I have for High Speed Internet where I am at. Needless to say, I am not happy. Please join with me and sign the posted petition.

EDIT: It seems I can get AT&T U-verse, but the speeds are way slower, but a bit cheaper.

EDIT2: Crap AT&T has a lower limit of 250GB with the same extra charge for every 50GB.

I literally cheered when FiOS moved into my area and I could dump Comcast for good.

I've had Comcast in multiple houses in multiple states and it has been a universally bad experience every time, without fail.

Same here. COX put a cap just last month on me. I'm limited to only 100GB. I saw my usage from before the cap, and was under 100GB most months. But it really sucks now having to think twice before downloading something.

They haven't started enforcing it again in my area, but it really wouldn't impact me anyways. I'm never even close to the cap. I don't imagine that most people who are near or over the cap on a monthly basis are doing anything legitimate anyways and it frequently has a negative impact on their neighbors. The internet in my Dad's neighborhood slows to a crawl every night because of some hog.

yes how dare people use their internet connections, i use IPTV for all my tv watching via streaming from the BBC etc so i dread to think what my data usage is, thankfully my isp doesnt cap data in the same way as comcast, they use traffic shaping on heavy users which im fine with

Damn, what the hell do you download?

I have FTTH connection on a 250GB bandwidth limit, and only once I have reached the limit.

Being by yourself is one thing, another is when you have more than one person using the same connection.

According to Comcast:

"XFINITY Internet customers’ median monthly data usage is currently 16 GB per month."

LOL

That sounds about right. I do a lot of gaming and stream daily, and I haven't even hit 100 GB in the past few months. People that just do email and Facebook aren't using dick for bandwidth.

That still does not add up though due to the amount of people who stream videos. A Large portion of people in the US use services like HuluPlus,Netflix,Youtube, and several other online streaming sites. Netflix and Hulu are fairly large hogs when it comes to bandwith.

So the 16 GB per month being the median does not seem right to me, could be wrong though.

A lot of times, content distributors work out deals with cable companies to not have certain streaming content count against their cap. The deal between Comcast and Microsoft's 360 XBox, for example.

I'm stuck in a similar situation with AT&T U-Verse. My family just loves streaming movies and shows, and we pay for a couple extra blocks per month. We don't get cable/satellite TV though, so that saves a bit of money.

I've had countless issues with Comcast. I'm in Live Chat with Frontier right now. Anyone ever had Frontier?

Welcome to the future of internet in the US. Hope you are watching the court case Verizon vs. FCC. They want to be able to charge a premium to offer access to sites! Imagine, you want to check your gmail and log into steamgifts? They are in the Platinum tier, that will cost you an extra $15 a month. Thanks, your ISP
The end of the internet as we know it in the US

I've already written my Senators and Congresswoman. I haven't heard back from all of them but PA Sen. Pat Toomey(R) basically told me to **** off.

The funny part, is that we payed (via taxes) to lay fiber optic across the country with the ability to supply high speed to all at affordable rates...... in 1996. Instead, we payed $7billion+ and received call waiting, voicemail, and DSL-- features that only cost pennies to implement. Capitalism ftw

I think I'd be safe with a 2TB allowance at least. What is the total bill? I pay roughly $100/month for the current service I have. Of course, your download speed is greater as well. I have a 30Mbps Download / 10Mbps Upload.

$90.00 a month "internet only", and that includes $15.00 extra charge for no extra stuff like HD cable tv, phone, and renting their modem/routers. I get basic television free with their package somehow, and I own all my own equipment. Not bad but not google fiber. I'm sure you pay the $100.00 cause you have some type of other services with them also, and if you bug them sometimes you can get in a good promotion, and have a cheap bill for a year or more. Yes 2 TB is more than enough. The most I ever went was around 700 GB, and that's because I did a format & re-downloaded all my games. I'm on average 300-400 GB Month. Hope that helps Lib ^_^ Have a great day!

I get basic television included just as you said. I didn't want it, but it was included at that speed of internet no matter what. I asked if they could take it off and give me a discount and I was told no. I also rent the modem. I was planning on buying one, but I keep putting it off because I don't know how long I'll be living in this area and am afraid I would have trouble selling it if I moved out of cable internet area. I don't have any other extras, no HD and no phone.

Wowza, that's really crappy. I guess ISPs nowadays really want to kill netflix and others who follows the same business. /conspiracy

Good thing canadian ISPs are really "generous" or they have sucky bandwitdh metering system since I ALWAYS go over the cap limit but doesn't get any overhead fees for it

I used to work for comcast. the reason they are having problems managing their networks and increased bandwidth usage is because they have been using the same old worn out infrastructure for far too long. They will not upgrade their networks and are milking everything they can from them as long as possible to save money vs upgrading miles of old cable and tons of field equipment. they have nice no they have awesome equipment at the headends where the satellite feeds come into the major hubs and get distributed from there. the rest of the network all around cities and such are worn out. there are some areas that are better than others where the lines are new but they are newer developments that have been made in the last 5-10 years. its like looking at a map and having blocks of area that are good and other blocks that are bad and its all jumbled up. they are lucky it works at all in some areas.
