Why people do not playing won games?

View Results
I played more than 70% of won games.
I'm playing but not all at once. Give me more time!
The game that I won is still too far in turn, from the one I'm playing right now.
I do not have enough time to play games for now. I hope soon i will.
I lost interest in games that I won before.
I'm just waiting for the upgrade of my computer to play games at the maximum settings.
I just like to win.
I want to make giveaway creator happier by participate on his giveaways/events.
I really don't know why I do this.
I will refrain from answering.
Where are no my answer but I will suggest it in comments.

This is a nice thread c:

I didn't win any games for about three months, then won three in the past two weeks, when I'm already in the middle of playing other games. I usually pick the games I win next by random number generator, so I'll play those games when RNGesus says so!

Unless it's something special like a Playing Appreciated giveaway, they get played fast.

Edit:
Re: Your English -
It's just fine! The biggest difference between your English and native English is your unusual sentence construction, with some grammar errors. If you really want to improve, other than by practicing writing in the forums, I'd suggest reading as much as you can so you can pick up the flow of how sentences are put together.

I like reading non-standard English writing, though. It's nice and different.

Could I ask you to give me any ideas about something correct for reading? I trying scientific literature and Star Trek (Voyager) but it's usually still hard to me. >_<'

I'd say everything scientific isn't really "entry level" reading because it got way too many technical jargon in it (and sometimes scientific literature can even be complicated to understand in your own language).

Easiest to read would be childrens/teen-books because they normally use a simple language while also having a correct grammer and sentence structure. This way you could get a better understandng of these while probably not having that much trouble with vocabulary.
In this category a bookseries many adults read is Harry Potter for example.

Another pretty easy read is books you already know (or know the story of in your language).
This again reduces the problems you'll have with vocabulary and makes it easier to notice the grammer/sentence structures.

Also reading auhors that you really like can help, because you are more invested into finishing their books/stories

Lastly what really helps a lot in understanding a language is reading a newspaper and listening to the language. Either through movies and series (best without subtitles) or via podcasts and news broadcasts.

It's comical, but I understand most part of terms in scientific texts and I usually don't understand connections and "links" in sentences of those texts.

That's unusual I'd think, but hey...everyone is wired differently.
Hope my suggestions help you anyway.

Oh and another thing that may be helping you to learn (in case you aren't doing so already):
Play your videogames in english (with subtitles if you're having problems otherwise). Every bit of hearing another language helps getting better.

I think about it but It's still very hard for me. Most games have no speech adaptation or clear speech. For example I can understand some sentences in Mass Effect series and can't understand anything in Deus Ex

You can't go wrong with Agatha Christie. My English is still so far from being perfect, but reading her books has actually helped a lot.

And then I moved on to Irvine Welsh and William Burroughs, but that's a completely different story, wouldn't exactly recommend them as learning material :)

I tried The Catcher in the Rye but it was hard and boring to me. I thought it 's dangerous to learn language by old books cause it's written by old-style language and have some or lot of differences when compared with nowadays language form.

Any good books you enjoy, or even watch TV shows/movies.

Or, just read up on some grammar; many of the errors you could fix by studying how verbs are conjugated.

The question not matching the answers is probably not a language thing. In most languages I know, you would ask about them ("you") rather than about "people" if you want them to answer about themselves as individuals.

I thought about it. I skill up my native language by this way. (It's funny school's study was not so effective as mine own by just one beautiful book)

The question not matching the answers is probably not a language thing. In most languages I know, you would ask about them ("you") rather than about "people" if you want them to answer about themselves as individuals.

Am I understand you correctly:

  • Use "you" if you want to get answer from individuals
  • Use "people" if you want to get answer which is typical for group of people. ("Typical" mean answer could be not match with individual opinion)

Pretty much.

if you want to get answers from individuals

to get an answer which is typical for groups of people

BTW, "advice" is like "data", you don't say "advices", the plural is the same as the singular.

As a non native speaker, I found the Harry Potter books useful. I felt that every new book had a slightly more complex vocabulary than previous ones.
If there's some book (or a movie base in a book) you like that it was originally writen in english, you could go for that. In my case, Fight Club and The Silence of the Lambs were quite satisfying to read in their original versions.

I find when I pick up some words in other languages when I watch a series in another language. I have watched a few Danish films with subtitles on and now when I watch Danish tv I know a few of the words. Maybe try reading subtitles when you listen to shows?

I'm a huge Star Trek fan and am re-watching Voyager right now. Janeway is such a badass captain.

Did you watched all previous series? I mean original series, second generation, deep space nine. I want to rewatch it all on English one day.

Oh, I love Star Trek Voyager! It's my favorite one. My favorite character is Tuvok c:

I would say, though, that you should avoid anything too technical, because that's not really how people talk. Someone downthread recommended Harry Potter and I absolutely agree. The books are structured to 'grow up' with a young adult reader.

The first book is much shorter and simpler, something that very many people began reading in early middle school - or at age eleven, like Harry is in the book. Each subsequent book, and year in his life, grows in complexity along with him, so the last book is nearly an 'adult' novel, when Harry becomes an adult himself.

I think, for you, starting in YA books would be best - there's a lot of genres and really good books where there's not a lot of complex sentence construction. Your usage of words is correct, it's just putting them together the 'right' way in a sentence. Watching sitcoms might be good for this, too, because it's all about people speaking naturally to each other. Scrubs is on netflix still, I think, and it's hilarious.

Don't know know Tuvok very well yet. But I think it will be interesting to take more knowledge of Vulcanian culture from Him. I know and like Spock. He was great and surprising. Now, while watching Voyager, I find Chakotay and american indian culture (my nickname from this theme 😄) very interesting. Voyager will tell more about it and give me some answers about Star Trek Lore, I hope. (As I said at early comment 😄). I really like commander Picard and Data.
Star Trek have so many cool, awesome and rich characters! And it's very funny to repeat again and again cycle "Well, this is new series of Star Trek. Let's see what does it cost. (time later) What's going on? It's little boring and characters are very scanty! (time later) Oh my god! I LOVE THIS! I LOVE THEM ALL" 😄

I'd suggest reading something that you enjoy in your own language, and getting an English copy. This way you're relatively familiar with the material, and your brain will be able learn the language easier ^-^

You seem to mostly have difficulty in the tenses (eg.decide, decides, decided) and the structure of sentences namely with articles (eg. is, the, a). Languages, especially one's with completely different structures are very difficult to learn, so it's really cool how fluent you are!

I thought to read Dostoevsky some days ago on English to understand his popularity on English-language community (as it known for me) but I don't want reread tons of his texts again 😄 It's better choose Jack London maybe or lot of another authors.
About second paragraph: yeah, it's very hard to construct sentences from start to end by one language and from end to start by another language. It's make me use lot of power to not mix native language with English.
I wonder and lose my self between 9-16 times times of English-languages. (My native language have only 3 times (English-language sites say 5 times 😄))
Thank you for your advice

one thing i learned was to try not to translate. As in do your best not to create the sentence in your head in your native language, and then begin rewording it. It adds an extra step and makes developing your understanding of the language far more difficult. Hope that made some sense ^-^'

For me, personally, I play my Steam games in the order I buy or receive them. In other words, the reason I haven't played the games I won a couple months ago is because I'm still working on the games I bought a year or two ago (once I'm done with them, you bet I'm gonna play my won games). I'm guessing this would fall under the "still too far in turn" option, right?

I try to play my wins relatively quickly, right now I'm a bit behind schedule (my latest two wins remain unplayed), mostly because of work. Since they seem to be short I'll probably be back at all-wins-played status by the end of the year, unless I somehow win 40 more games by then.

Time is the issue, of course.
Granted, for the bigger/better games, I still attempt it for at least a few hours, but I honestly don't have the time to play all the games I win fully.
Some would say that I shouldn't enter the giveaways in that case, but ultimately, I plan to play every single one of the games I won, sooner or later.

One of the reasons I'm not part of playing appreciated, though I like the concept, sticking to a specific timeframe is difficult for me.

I try to get around to every game I own, not just the ones I win. It's a disease really... I keep it going by using strange justifications in the back of my mind. Like maybe one day I'll break both of my legs and be unable to work for months and can only play video games. I am prepared for when that happens.

Then some jackass game usually sucks me in and screws with my backlog progress. Like hey, I know you were working on singleplayer games but all your friends are playing PUBG. Why not sink a few dozen more hours into R6? I think Terraria deserves another 100 hours of my life.

Honestly, just enjoy playing your games. Don't make it like work, games are for fun. If you're enjoying spending all your time collecting feathers in Assassin's Creed while the thousands of other games in your library gather digital dust, who cares? They're not going anywhere.
Did you just win a game and feel guilty about not playing it right away (or ever)? Don't, the giver likely doesn't care, the real reward for them is the giving. That little spark you get when you win something for nothing other than a stranger's generosity. /ramble

As someone who used to no play the huge majority of games won here, I can affirm that there are 2 main reasons: Card money, to buy other stuff and having a +1 in your account, even if you know that you already have lots of unplayed games. Both of them boil down to greed. I won some 500 games just trying to get some cents, telling myself I'd play them someday™. But that's just a lie we tell ourselves.

Since we can't change the past, I've decided to change my attitude and created a self-imposed rule that I can only enter GAs if I beat more games than the amount I've won during the month. My backlog have been in steady decline ever since. I highly recommend this this system, if anyone is serious about dealing with their backlogs.
Blaeo also helps a lot!

Ps: Your english is fine. Don't listen to anyone saying otherwise. The fact that you speak 2 languages is already awesome! ;)

I only enter giveaways for games I want to play, and I do play them. So far I've finished over 100 of my won games, I've had lots of fun, thanks to generous people here :)

For quite some time, I assumed everyone here would be like me, wanting to play everything they won, and thinking like that made it fun doing giveaways that I imagined went to loving homes... then I discovered the sad reality. Quite often games end up never being played... or at least not being played in 2-3 years, by someone who has won 4-500 games in those 2-3 years and maybe played a handful of them (in other words, at the rate they play their won games, there's no chance they will have time to play even what they won in such short time, and they still feel the need to keep on winning).

It's also interesting to see that it's way more common that someone who wins maybe 5-50 games per year play the games they win, than someone who wins 100+ games per year. Often, someone with 30-40 wins have played more games than the people who have won 500+. The people with 500+ wins seem to be very likely to not be interested in playing games. It's quite interesting to check with this script. This is not always the case, some people have lots of wins but have also played lots of their won games.

As many already have said. Some people probably just like to win, to get the +1 and some card money. For me, who don't have a lot of money left after the bills are paid, it's quite sad if I spent 80% of what I have left one month on a game that could be 50+ hours of fun for someone, and it instead just turns into a meaningless number, and almost no money in cards.

I love it when giveaway winners end up playing and enjoy the games I do giveaways for. It feels a lot more fun spending money on someone who gets anywhere between 5-500 hours of entertainment out of the maybe €2-30 I spend, instead of someone just increasing the number 5246 into 5247, and getting €0.20 worth of cards out of it. Then I would rather have given them the card money directly and sent the game to someone who wanted to play it...

One last thing. Many who don't play their won games will probably blame lack of time. It would be interesting to check their entry/comment stats here on SG. Imagine the average giveaway takes 5 seconds to enter, and the average comment takes 20 seconds to write. Someone with 500 won games, 40000 entries and 15000 comments have probably spent at least 140 hours on Steamgifts (which is around the same time a full time employee spends at work one month). Why not spend half as much time on SG and use that to play some won games? ;)

I know some guys who like to play games during holiday or sick days. I say "we have too much on old-ages" to my friends when they grumble about too many games in their libraries. But, I don't support way to just collect games (ironically, some people are collectors in good opinion but without good taste often)

I have one Happy New Year's "beggar" (he ask SG for a very chip game at Happy New Year) who complete about 3-10 games per week usually. He passed week with a head in wished gift. Also, I felt very uncomfortably and embarrassing when he gift back 2 other games to me for my execution of his holiday desire. (Don't think I boast. It's just experience share, observation)

I think it could be cause some people have not enough talk in their life so they could use SG, winning (if they have no money), gifting (if they have money) to make discussion theme and talk. It's strange maybe but is not impossible, right?
